So ChiSoul X - 'come get to this', the 5th Anniversary, is consigned to history ! What a day we all had tho' - from the minute Clive P fired up things in the main room & then Johhny Pearson took us on a trip down memory lane in the club room, we were in for 10 hours of the most fun you can possibly have with your clothes on !
A special shout of appreciation to all the fantastic DJ's that play at ChiSoul - absolutely no musical bariers, simply the very best selection of all we love in this wonderful music we call Soul !
It would be brilliant to meet up with some new friends when we all get back together again in March 2009 for the next installment of the musical oddessy that is ChiSoul, but in the meantime there is Soul cruising to be enjoyed first. Join Jamie, myself & all the regular ChiSoul crew as we career along the Thames through London on Sunday 30th November for 5 hours of everything Soulful. Further information on tickets & anything else is available through the web site www.londonsoulcruise.co.uk.
'Sounds to quench your musical thrist'
Music
ChiSoul has always tried to offer a real mix of Soul music, & based on the fact that we can offer 2 rooms of entertainment then Jamie & I will continue to push the boundries as wide as we can. The Club room tends to be slightly more eclectic with 70's crossover vying with the latest Southern sounds, in fact right through to jazzy vibes. The Main room tends to be slightly more dance orientated featuring absolutely anything a DJ feels will keep the dancers happy, after all the music is what we're all here for.
About me: The concept of ChiSoul was dreamed up following the success of the London Soul Cruises & from back in the day, the Solent Cruises run by Jamie McGreal for almost 20 years. Chichester has historically been a desert in the Soul field & so when Jamie & Paul decided there was most definately an opportunity to put a Soul night on locally, it was decided that we would initially run 5-6 events at the La Havana bar, covering a wide spectrum of music. Attendences were average but on occations as many as 100 turned up - the seed had been sown, we both agreed that there was definately potential to take the concept forward.
We felt that if we got the balance right then we would get the numbers, but what we didn't have was the right venue. But as luck would have it, a connection gave us an 'in' to a fabulous old building in West Street that was a Wine Bar / resturant, but could accomodate what we really wanted, 2 seperate rooms of music - bingo - we agreed that Sadlers Wine Bar was the perfect place to launch the initial ChiSoul Alldayer.
And so it came to pass that on Saturday 30th August 2003, the 'Cellar full of Soul' launched the 1st ChiSoul Alldayer. Running from 3pm - midnight, we managed to bribe Gary Dennis along with Lloyd Attrill & Jim 'the syrup' Day to headline for us. More than ably supported by the Banbury Massive, we had the most fantastic day with almost 200 people coming along to experience Soul in Chichester for the first time - we were on our way !
Who I'd like to meet: ChiSoul has always been about meeting people with a common cause, the love of the music ! It wouldn't be a ChiSoul either without the amazing support of everybody who travels - the Soul scene has always been about going long distances to listen, dance & socialise with some of the best people in the world. It's Darrell S, one of our resident DJ's, with the biggest smile in the world, it's Colin, Ben & all the Banbury boys just making everybody feel good. There's Bob & Jip who look after the door - we couldn't do it without them. There's Stevie C & Alfie P, always smoozing with the ladeez. It's Dave Ayling, arms outstretched singing his heart out, then of course there's Rob, Debs & their daughter Leah who knows every word to everything played - & who can forget the lovely 'champagne girls', Sandra & Tina, guaranteed to keep the bar takings up! It's just full of characters, so you can see it's the people who make ChiSoul such fun & as long as you all keep on coming, Jamie & I will keep on doing our best to keep you happy !
