I’m sitting at Quincy’s in Calgary watching Chloe Albert as she gets up on stage, sits herself onto a stool, and begins to quietly strum her guitar. A few chords in, she wastes no time getting to know the audience. The casual conversations begin to fade with the lights and each and every person in the house is tuning in. “Hi everyone…it’s nice to see so many of you here tonight”.
By now the people are shuffling closer, looking for that perfect seat right near the stage. The night begins with the folky sound of “Firelight”, a mid-tempo number from Chloe’s upcoming release, reminiscent of the early Blue Rodeo catalogue.
Over the course of the 45-minute set, she weaves from folk to rhythm and blues to country, and by her frequent smiles, you can tell she’s having a good time.
The crowd is quiet throughout the entire set, and they watch intently as she plays. It’s clear they’re enjoying themselves too.
Edmontonian Chloe Albert is well on her way to becoming acquainted with the rest of Canada one song at a time. Her debut album ‘Dedicated State’ recently garnered the attention of the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Chloe took home the ‘Emerging Artist of the Year’ award this past November.
‘In the few years following Chloe Albert's graduation from the music program at Edmonton's MacEwen College, she was kept busy piecing her debut album track by track, line by line, fitting in the writing, recording, arranging and producing in between life and work. This comes across when listening to her first recording, a beautiful gem she calls 'Dedicated State': it is clear that this is a woman who crafts her songs thoughtfully, writes the narratives as a storyteller would, taking her time to piece it together just right.’
‘I don't know how many times, while listening to the songs on the album, that I have to remind myself that this is but her first album; her voice is so soulful, there's a maturity and confidence to her singing that makes you think this is say, maybe a fourth or fifth album from a seasoned performer. Her voice is front and centre on this album, with some lovely clean production on this pop / folk / jazz tinged recording. If this is Chloe Albert's starting point, I am so very excited to hear where she'll go from here.’ –Kerf Music
Hey. I'm conducting a market survey about recording studios and it would be a big help if you would follow the link below and fill out the survey. Its about recording studios and how their clientele make decisions.
You are wonderful! I've seen you perform many times in Edmonton and have the CD, which is great! From one Edmontonian to another...happy new year and all the best :) Looking forward to hearing more from you!
how coincidental that you should comment on my status re: wine therapy, since I'm ALSO sitting here @ 3am wide awake having me some "chloe albert therapy" to help with the tooth pain. ;)

How's it going? I'm recording an all-original CD right now. I've written about 45 songs since March 22! Some door is open and I'll keep catching what's coming through!
Tom Allen has a show on CBC in the AM that I can pick up because we are close to Windsor, ONT. He plays your songs and other good stuff that they don't play in the states. Our radio is pretty bleak.
