'Divining': Vocals / Piano (all insts) / Production ~ Chloë March
French horn: Emma Bell
Influences
The sound of my mum practising the piano - so, loads of composers, but Schumann, Chopin, Ravel and Bach would have to be in there.
Theatre Music; Ilona Sekacz in particular. Film Music; Gabriel Yared, Lisa Gerrard, Bill Conti
First album I begged for aged 5: 'Eight Songs for a Mad King' by Peter Maxwell Davies, not quite sure why, I think I liked the man's voice and the groovy photo on the cover....
Usually it's the voices I fall for - here's a few; Jane Siberry, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Sting, David Sylvian, k d lang, Elizabeth Fraser, Sarah Jane Morris, Ella Fitzgerald, Judie Tzuke, Goldfrapp, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon and then it's all the usual suspects - Stravinsky, Steve Reich, Debussy, Free, Yes, Pink Floyd, Talk Talk, everything but the girl, pet shop boys, Britten, Nick Cave, Vaughan Williams
Other huge influences: Charles Dickens, Michelle Roberts, Angela Carter, Emily Brönte, Charlotte Brönte, Thomas Hardy, Wilkie Collins, Sarah Waters, T.S. Eliot, Caspar David Friedrich, Peter Ackroyd
'Garden On The Boulevard' is my new EP and some songs are now previewing up here ~ it'll have a Digital Pre-Release towards the end of November 2009 and downloads will be available from Bandcamp via my new website which will go live at the same time.
'Garden On The Boulevard' is less of a concept than my 'Divining' album which was inspired by water, though I did want the EP as a whole to be quite hypnotic and filmic. Some of my inspirations for these songs came from Paris, gitanes, my old zenith camera, romance and coffee (Boulevard), the plight of the honeybees and the mythical world tree Yggdrasil (Bees And Gods), the mesmerizing dawn chorus and sounds from childhood: ice cream vans and piano practice (Hyper-Arboreal) and just really wanting to write a song I could dance to (Marquisite).
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it ~ I'll be swapping the tracks around up here and they'll also be playing at jango.com
'A command of the keyboard reminiscent of Kate Bush, Tori Amos or Nina Simone’ Tom Robinson BBC6 Music
'...An ethereal song cycle based around water imagery, using the intricate minimalism of Steve Reich, layers of sparkling keyboards and her deep, sensual alto. Ms. March is a more pastoral Kate Bush. It's the sort of music that would accompany a movie version of Wuthering Heights (as directed by Peter Greenaway)' the new gay
'Wow, this is a beautiful record. March has a voice that blends perfectly with the lush arrangements and intricate piano tinkling...it’s no surprise that this is perfect for those cold, rainy days spent under a blanket with tea....'

'It's as lovely as they say. It's almost a score without a film. There's a sense of place, earnest and immersive.....Listening to it is interesting. There are things to discover. There are ways to become lost.' Self As Fractal
'... a mesmerizing voice and artfully filtered sounds' julians flight

I love Cornwall, whenever I go anywhere else on holiday I always wish I was in Cornwall, it just has a feeling to it that is quite unique.
I'm sure we'll love Barcelona, I've found a couple of vegan places to eat there and a couple of indian veggie places who assure me they always cater for vegans so should be good.
Have you ever been to the 'Secret Society of Vegans' stall in Camden? They have some lovely vegan sweets and biscuits there, real junk food but lovely!!
All is good here, in the wilds of Frome. In a fortnight we are going to Barcelona for a few days to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I've always wanted to go there so really looking forward to it.

Yep, the moving is pretty much over now. We've got the old place till the end of the month so we've been moving out slowly but, apart from a few bits in the garage, it's all done now. It's been pretty exhausting but it's good to have enough room, at last, to store all our stuff.
I love Amsterdam, did you go the the very wonderful De Bolhoed restaurant? Hope all is good? We are in the process of moving to a 209 year old cottage in Frome.
loved ya so much i got me a 'snowdrop' download from cd baby, pity the new one's not on cd baby download..? anyway, love my snowdrop! ;)* you're wonderful!
I'm envious of your snow, we've got none here! Hope your boiler is fixed now? Mu daughter is stuck in Brighton trying to get to London for a trade show at Olympia, all seems like disaster! Amazing how the transport system collapses with snow isn't it? Lots of love,
Caryne
PS Hope your cat is ok, mine's just come in complaining loudly about the cold!
