Stable Records

The Chocolate Horse is embarking upon its second vinyl release, We Don’t Stand on Ceremony (STA-002). This an amalgamation of the musical musings and renderings of all six band members – Jason Snell, Andrew Higley, Paul Brumm, Johnny Ruzsa, Dave Cahill, and Sharon Udoh - not to mention special guests Joe Klug of Wussy (percussion), Jim Feist (tabla), and Tobe Donohue of Animal Crackers (drums). This is the second full length vinyl release from The Chocolate Horse on their own Stable Records, the first being the well-received Patience Works! (STA-001).
Fresh from their performance at the acclaimed Cincinnati Midpoint Music Festival (MPMF)
The Chocolate Horse will celebrate the release of their newest album with a limited-edition vinyl + digital download release party at Cincinnati’s Northside Tavern, Friday October 16, 2009 with special guests and local favorites DJ Bryan A. Dilsizian and Me or the Moon.
The Midwestern six-piece is comprised of Jason Snell (vocals, guitar, banjo), Andrew Higley (keyboards, horns, bowed saw, vibraphone), Paul Brumm (acoustic bass, vocals), Johnny Ruzsa (alto flute, ocarina, percussion), Dave Cahill (drums), and new addition Sharon Udoh (keyboards, backup vocals). In addition to recording in the Stable Records studio, the band put time in at Ultrasuede Studios, owned and operated by John Curley (The Afghan Whigs), and at Manimal Studio with Tobe Donohue (Animal Crackers). After mixing the album to his liking the Horse’s Paul Brumm teamed up with John Curley once more to master tracks, finally sending the finished body of songs to Nashville’s United Record Pressing to complete the vinyl mastering and pressing.
We Don’t Stand on Ceremony is a clean and masterful ‘kicked-up-a-notch’ continuation of the hauntingly melodic, yet non-traditional edge found in their earlier Patience Works! In a Tom Waits-meets-the-Flaming Lips moment their newest brainchild kicks off with the surprisingly perfect short-circuit induced burning of the band’s Fun Machine organ within the song “Your Daughter.” From the expressive “Spent Time Underground” to the upbeat, flute-graced “Open Up to Hide” The Chocolate Horse has created an album that subtly channels all sides of human emotion, all the while being incredibly easy on the ears. Also note-worthy, the Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund recently used the catchy banjo driven “Add Up the Friends” as the grand finale in their choreographed Splash Dance Cincinnati video.
Check out The Chocolate Horse at their limited-edition We Don’t Stand on Ceremony vinyl release party at Cincinnati’s Northside Tavern Friday, October 16th, 2009 at 10 pm, or online at www.thechocolatehorse.com.
