Chocolate Kiss started in 1997 with Bob (Bob Rob/Mr. Bob) Medina on guitar, James Joyce on guitar, Matt Mauldin on singing and Jon Rothman on drums. Eventually we figured out that Jon was a terrible drummer so we got Kip Thomas to play drums after our second show. He was also a good addition, as he helped run Moodswing Records during this time and financed the release of 4 Chocolate Kiss CDs over the next 4 years, including Onethrutwelve (aka The Orange Album), Les Boom Boom (aka The Blue Album), Set Yourself On Fire (aka The Red Album), and No Funeral (aka The Green Album). We shunned the bass player for many years, keeping the sound to the duel rhythm guitar midrange sound, but then added Cade Lewis on bass for the band’s final year and No Funeral album. We never became a very popular band, which kept us honest, but we did have a core group of superfans that we loved very much. This site is for them and the wives of Chocolate Kiss: Andrea Thomas, Becky Mauldin, Sue Joyce and Janet Medina (we miss you).
One precious memory of Chocolate Kiss: At the 357, Athens. I've known Bob a grand total of 5 minutes and he proceeds to put a Combos snack cracker in each of his nostrils. I am simultaneously appalled and intrigued.
