Debbie Fleming, Dorothy McDonall and Mary Ellen Moore met and became fast friends while singing as sopranos in the famed Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. After seeing the film "O Brother Where Art Thou?" they were inspired to form a country-roots trio to fulfill their love for this unspoiled music.
It wasn't long before they began writing and performing their own material, and their reputation began to grow. As one appreciative fan wrote, "You've got everything going for you....great voices, a really fun stage presence, interesting to look at...everything!"
They have now recorded three CDs the first one "Angel Wings" was debuted in Nashville, and the second, "Girl Time," recorded with backing band The Bebop Cowboys, has received widespread airplay and attention.
Their third CD "Livin' It" was released in late 2008, and consists of songs written by ChoirGirlz leader Debbie Fleming, with some songs cowritten with Dorothy and Mary Ellen and Lynne Deragon. "Livin' It" features songs that span the emotional gammut - from laughter to tears - as livin' it usually does.
"Ode to a Vet" featured on My Space is written in proud memory of Debbie's father, Major William A. Duncan, who bravely fought in World War Two. The war was the experience Major Duncan was most proud of in his long life of 93 years, and up until he was 92, he spoke in schools on Remembrance Day,dressed in his kilt and Glengarry cap, to educate the children on the meaning of the war, and the freedom it brought to all of us.
Dream Baby, as also heard on My Space, is all about that perfect man we women dream of when we turn out the light. A little tongue in cheek.
The Earth Hour Song on "Livin' it" outlines ways to reduce our personal carbon footprints.
Moving Day - is a song written after moving Debbie's elderly parents out of their home of 60 years.
Many more songs about life and livin' it are on this CD, which features some of Toronto's finest musicians playing behind the lush harmonies of the ChoirGirlz.
ChoirGirlz have performed in Nashville, all around Ontario, on radio and television, in festivals, house concerts, restaurants, corporate functions, cafes and for 3 years, have fulfilled their shared dream to perform center-stage at Roy Thomson Hall (where they usually sing with 160 singers in the choir loft) to a capacity audience. They continue to widen their scope, and if you go to their website -- you'll learn of upcoming shows.

"Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David - a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
Now, it all comes together. We are each others friends. I also did Winterfolk 4 years in a row. Six degrees of Separation. David Saslove is my first cousin. The funeral for David Norris-Elye was really something and you sang so beautifully. Be proud. All the best. Linda
