Biography
My real name is Noel Limbani Innocent Jack Juma Chikoleka-banda. I was born to and raised by an administrator and banker; A.J and E.J Chikoleka respectively. The day of my birth was 18th December. We were five in our family until my brother Austin, second born, passed away. I was born and raised in Area 12, Lilongwe Malawi then in 2005 I moved to Area 25. I did my Primary School at Mphungu in Area 12 and Secondary School at Marist Secondary in Dedza. I passed my MSCE very well and I was selected to The Polytechnic to do a course I never chose and had no passion for. Then I went to Mzuzu University where I am currently pursuing a degree in Information and Communication Technology.
My family has been at Malawian Embassies in The United States of America, The United Kingdom and The Republic of South Africa. So, I grew up with siblings and parents with foreign experiences and accents. I have never done grammar school hence I got my accent and foreign perspective from my family. My father was a fanatic of Music. He was a crazy fanatic because he used to get latest Vinyls all the way from U.S.A. I grew up listening to Jim Reeves, Jimmy Cliff, Elvis Presley, James Brown, Harry Belafonte and countless classics courtesy of my father.
Then around the 90s; my late brother Austin started playing this strange music with catchy beats and brothers talking along it. When I asked my brother who these people were he was like: that is The Wu-tang Clan, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, KRS-One, Naughty by Nature, N.W.A, 2 Pac, Notorious B.I.G, Puff Daddy, Mase, Will Smith and Nas. This music kept on playing and I kept memorizing it and showing it off to my friends. That was primary school.
Then at Marist Secondary School; I met a few friends and we made a rap group for the variety shows; Cutt Killers. This comprised of Divine Sense, Lex, D4G, Architect, Mighty and myself; Figa 7. Then on one particular weekend there was a variety show and I memorized a certain Dr. Dre verse to perform at the show. This was my first time to be on stage and Eminem’s description on “Lose yourself” clearly describes me on that day. I lost it and I was the butt of people’s jokes from that point on wards because we got respect if we were good at something and I wasn’t. That was the boiling point of my miseries. This was the time I looked up to The Lone Ranger.
I grew up believing The Lone Ranger Creed and way of life. The Lone Ranger is a comic character that later became a cartoon then big screen movie. This was my favorite cartoon as a kid. With my problems of fitting in and being regarded as an outcast; I had no friends and people dissed me left and right; calling me names, claiming that I had no class, wetted my bed and all that Jack rabbit. This was the time I put the Lone Ranger Creed and way of Life into practice by creating the image called Phyzix; meaning a type of emcee who unifies energy and matter when he writes music i.e. passion and ability. I worked hard in everything, lived in seclusion, had no friends, did good to the good and bad to the bad and mostly became a master of everything I learnt. Slowly but surely I became good in a great number of things because of The Lone Ranger Concept such as: Basketball, Hip Hop, Martial Arts, Education and so much more.
This was the time I met the Nasty Jam DJs: Rodman, Big Joe and Vicky Smalls. I perfected my rhyming and stage performance skills at their shows. When I felt ready to record a track; I went to my home boy Dominant 1 to get a beat and recorded my first studio single with M-Crazy called “It’s a killer” which was about HIV/AIDS. I performed it at a fully packed Civo stadium during The Stars Aware AIDS campaign and a number of radio DJs such as Ephraim Nyirenda, Eduardo and others fell in love with it and got it. It was being played a lot on radio and reached the extent of being a theme song for a certain HIV/AIDS radio program. I was so motivated by this that writing rhymes became my daily habit. I was finally getting appreciation and acceptance that I longed for a very long time.
So, my day view album is about The Lone Ranger concept and what I went through which I believe a lot of Youth go through in terms of acceptance, self love and appreciation by your peers. I wish to bring hope to those going through what I went through.
I have released three mix tapes: The Overdue (2006), Black Stars don’t Shine (2007) and From the Dust (2008).
I am motivated by anything in life. Some of my songs were inspirations that don’t even connect to the song. These just spark a chain reaction of thought.
