Chong Lim is probably most famous for his role as Musical Director on the highly popular Dancing With The Stars, but Chong has always worked tirelessly behind the scenes in the music business. For over 20 years now, he has worked with the who's who of the Australian Music Industry not only as a prolific Music Director, but also as a Composer, Arranger, and Record Producer.
Up until now, Chong Lim has been behind the success of many Australian artists, helping them rise to fame with his musical expertise for both hit albums and popular television productions – but now Chong is finally going solo with a new album to be released this November.
Chong was born in Malaysia, and studied Engineering at Melbourne University before being seduced into the music industry and becoming a musician. Best known as the Musical Director of hit series Dancing With The Stars for 8 seasons now, Chong has also worked as a Musical Director for the Logies for an unprecedented 10 years, for hit show It Takes Two, and had been Musical Director for both Don't Forget Your Toothbrush and In Melbourne Tonight.
Not limited to experience in television production, Chong has worked with many successful Australian artists as Musical Director for John Farnham (for over 15 years), Kylie Minogue, Olivia Newton-John, Sir George Martin (yes, the 5th Beatle!!), and Boz Scaggs.
His experience in composition is no less impressive. As composer for the Sydney Olympics in 2000, for both the Opening and Closing ceremonies, Chong composed the "Nature" segment as well as "Journey Of Angels" for the Official Olympic Flag Entrance, and also produced Vanessa Amorosi, John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John and Kylie Minogue in their performances for the Opening and Closing ceremonies. Chong also gained international attention when asked to act as Musical Director and composer for the Commonwealth Games 2006 Melbourne Closing Ceremony, working with more international and local artists such as Dame Edna, Sarah Blasko, Paul Kelly, The Presets, The Bodyrockers and Grinspoon.
The compositional resume doesn’t stop there for Chong, with works composed for the Gondwana Voices for the Commonwealth Games, the opening sequence and the prestigious Lighting Of The Cauldron sequence for the 15th Asian Games Opening Ceremony held in Doha, Qatar in 2006, Malaysia's annual Citrawarna Festival and the fixed installation Light and Water show in the atrium of Crown Casino.
Chong has also produced many hit records including David Hobson’s "The Promise" (which went gold), and his latest release "A Little Closer", as well as David Campbell’s albums "Swing Sessions 1 " and "Swing Sessions 2 " (which went double platinum and was nominated for the 2008 ARIA Awards for Best Selling Album). As producer, Chong has produced for huge international calibre artists as well as local artists such as Olivia Newton-John, Kylie Minogue, Christine Anu, Tina Arena, Tommy Emmanuel, Kate Ceberano, Anthony Callea, Natalie Bassingthwaite and Delta Goodrem.
With all of that experience and musical talent, it’s really no wonder that the time has finally come for Chong Lim to stand in the spotlight in his own right. His new solo career has been a long time in the making.

Hi Chong Thanks so much for your feedback - really appreciate it. Your work on Dancing With The Stars is fantastic - really like the different moods and music styles of your band and Michelle is a wonderful singer. All the best with your new album :)
Hi Chong, thanks, really appreciate it. As you know, a lot of work, but so worth it. It really is hard to think that it was only 12 months ago that we sat over coffee with Brett (Garsed) and racked his brain on ideas of how to get the show together & piece the music together!!
I know the show is where I want it to be when you're acting MD for one of my shows! hehe
Well done, so proud of you on your individual CD.. take care, warm wishes
No problems! I had an absolute ball that night! Best night out ever I would have to say.... and the brilliant music made it that much better! hehe :) xoxo
A great surprise to discover the new dancing album...I must grab one. Congratulations. My favourite band members together once again, how wonderful. Oh and I wanted to tell you the Spirit of Christmas CD sounds lovely this year too. Beautiful work as always.
