What could possibly justify any form of animal exploitation?

Who can watch the innocent victim of a bullfight or other bloodsport die from deliberately inflicted wounds and yet regard themselves as civilized?

What validity have religious beliefs which brand other beings as lower or lesser creatures?

How can we eat what was once living flesh and yet speak of healthy living?

What logic is there in willfully hurting others while expecting treatment to cure one's own pain or sickness?

Does the use of another's fur and skin,
slaughterhouse by-products and substances tested on animals really make us beautiful?

Why do we
speak of needs
when what we
really mean is wants?

Just One Voice

By C. Ward

Each day I learn, research and read.
About all the animals who are in need.
The circus, the rodeo, the fur and factory farm.
The pain, the fear, the unbelievable harm!

The research scientist who causes pain.
The dog in the yard chained in the rain.
The kitten drowned, the puppy burned.
These are just a few of the horrible tragedies
of which I’ve learned!

The innocent ones they have no choice.
The innocent ones they have no voice.
The horrors inflicted upon those so dear.
And so many people who do not want to hear.

Each of us, we have a choice.
Each of us, we have a voice.
Use your voice to educate.
Pass out leaflets, demonstrate.
Write letters, boycott stores.
Knock on all your neighbors’ doors.

Use your voice as I have mine.
You can help, it just takes time.

About me:

It should not be believed that all beings exist for the sake of the existence of man. On the contrary, all the other beings too have been intended for their own sakes and not for the sake of anything else.
Rabbi Moses ben Maimon
(1135-1204)

Until we have the courage to recognize cruelty for what it is - whether its victim is human or animal - we cannot expect things to be much better in this world... We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity"
~Rachel Carson

Animal liberation is also
human liberation!
Animal liberationists care about
the quality of life for all.

We recognize our kinship with all feeling beings. We identify with the powerless and the vulnerable – the victims, all those dominated, oppressed and exploited. And it is the non-human animals whose suffering is the most intense, widespread, expanding, systematic and socially sanctioned of all.
~Henry Spira

deep within heart of a mountain
drumming thundered trough its veins
a chanting had started in the city of crystals
all beings had gathered to participate

the very walls where humming
every atom of air joined in a dance
pulsating everywhere and all around
merged completely to one pulse

Calcutta sounds like a fable in a song, but in reality, it is where John, my colleague and successor, was murdered. He was on the job for only three days when he got his throat slashed. As an undercover investigator targeting the illegal wildlife trade, especially in tiger parts, his real name was unknown, even to me, nor mine to him. We were just John and James to each other. All I know is that he was Chinese American, while his predecessor James - real name Anthony Marr - is Chinese Canadian, and how sincere he was in helping to save the Bengal tiger from being poached out of existence, while its habitat continues to dwindle due to human pressure...

Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate them. Animals are truly a gift to us, and we must take care of them the best we can. You have a fantastic site by the way; I'm happy to know that there are so many people looking out for our furry friends.

Thanks so much for being my friend, One Voice!

I am stopping by to say "hi" and to remind you that in addition to MySpace, you can visit with me on Twitter and Facebook. I also have a personal blog on StockValues.

I write mostly about farming/gardening and stock/bond investing, but also anything else that rattles my cage. Please stop by when you get a chance.
