It is staggering the amount of musicians and people who gave up their valuable time to see these albums through to natural conclusion and, for most, there was very little renumeration. The first album, "PROSPER IN TUNDRA", started life as an acoustic project between myself and Kevin Richards. Not long after, Simon Jeffrey entered the frame, supplying drums and percussion. Geoffrey Richardson, a multi instrumentalist, laid down the viola, violin, cello and a super sax part for White Noise in Dreamland and Melissa West delivered vocal vibes on Twisted Paths and White Noise in Dreamland. The album was recorded at Delta Studios, Chartam, Kent and engineered by Julian Whitfield. Special thanks to Alex Jenkins for artwork and Chris Bennett at Senol Printing. Thanks everyone..AND WELL OVERDUE...The second album, "SANDCASTLES; Makers and Breakers", came soon after "Prosper" was completed but has taken so many twists and turns that it is a miracle it was ever finished. Thankfully, with unshakeable support from Simon Jeffrey, it was completed and involved all the usual subjects; Simon on drums and percussion, Geoffrey Richardson for all woodwind, as well some new musicians; Rachel Martin on french horn and flugel horn, Justin Mitchel on pocket trumpet, Bruce Allen on drums, Sarah Reed for backing vocals, Pete Shaw for double bass, Melisa West for vocals and Louis Turpin for vocals. Thanks again to Julian Whitfield at Delta Studios and Bernie Torme at Barnroom Studios. What a journey! Thanks all. Derek Heffernan. P.S. Kevo, you"ll always be Brazil and, Simon (Yavo), top bloke!
I was born in a thunderstorm in 1963; I know I'm ancient! My first acoustic guitar had a hole in the side of it and I used to stick a microphone in the hole and wired the mike into the stylus pins of my mother's Hitachi music center. It distorted naturaly, turning my mother's speakers into space dust! Sorry ma! From that day on I knew what I wanted to do and I'm still doing it. My first tour was with the Virgin Prunes as a stand in guitarist and I'm very proud that I just about pulled that off! Then followed many different albums and tours with Paul Roland and a long stint with Louis Turpin, as well as albums with Sarah Reed and Jim Leverton. I have to try other types of music to stop the humdrum rot of musical stagnation.
