pff too many..
Anything that is good, sexy and kicks me in the arse.
Anything that gets me out of bed
Anything that moves me through the day
Anything I play 2 dozen times.
I’m not a “guitar guru” like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert and so many others and I don’t aim to that. This is not “my version“ of Little Wing, me showing off: “ooh, mamma look at me, all with just 10 fingers!!” . I did use the version of Steve Ray Vaughan as a starting point; oh yes, SRV is very much present here and the reason for that will be clear as you read on.
Note: This is not a tribute to Jimy Hendrix and/or SRV. This is much closer to home.
Years ago, after a really bad band break up, I had enough. I started working as a drummer, as there was opportunity for that. Some of my best friends kicked my arse for that. NOT for playing drums, but for abandoning the guitar.
To make a long story short, a few of my best friends did not let go and somehow I got tricked/challenged into playing this song. I’m not a blues fanatic, I like all sorts of music and there’s not always a good reason why I like or dislike a song. Little Wing is one of those songs … sure, it is blues… but it doesn’t start with the words “Well my baby..” or “When I woke up this morning...” and that is a good start.. mostly I find the vocals in blues music rather something I have to tolerate, but this is not about blues and my opinion about it, I’m just trying to paint a picture here.
I like the fact that in Steve Ray Vaughan’s version there’s a great deal of dynamic change, from playing very gently to going all the way and blowing the big guns and no matter what style of music I'll listen to: THAT I DO like.
So I took this song as a starting point, and took it for a spin.
I took is as far as I could in matter of detail. It's far from perfect and it doesn’t have to be. As long as it carries the soul.
I didn’t even made the effort to cut off my “victory-yell” at the end. Neither did I make any attempt to clean up the hiss of my Wah pedal. I wanted to play in such a way that I would get very close to you.
Anyway, bottom line: Because of those few friends who had the guts to tell me what I did not want to hear (which is not always an easy task!) and with this song as a vehicle, these are the reasons why I play the way I do today.
And I thought it was time to remind them (you know who you are); I still remember, I’m still grateful and I owe you a great deal of happiness and joy, thank you.
Thank you Jimy H, & SRV for letting me ride your thing.
Shred on...

Hello Chris!!!I'm still in Brazil, arranging all the papers we need to succeed with our visa. I"m travelling on January 5th.And yes I'm really happy now that our dream is coming true.God lead us!!hugs to you and your beautiful family!!
Hey mate, I am trailing behind you with a used Mac G5 2.5 gigahertz quad core with 4 gigabytes of RAM. I just ordered Pro Tools 8. So, I am officially a happy Mac user. I am so happy with my Mac Pro investment. But, I'm just undergoing the learning curves. Any advise will be most appreciated! I bought the Mac off of Ebay for $1,100.00 US. dollars. A steal! Compared to $2,500.00 brand new, I'll take it. Anyways, I should get Pro Tools 8 tomorrow. Yay! Then, I'll be hitting the books and learning what needs to be done to make my songs better. I'm just glad to have more CPU power. Now, I might actually be able to finish a song the way I want it.
Anyways, as far as my health. I've been having some chest pain for like three weeks. But, I've had a ton of tests done and with any luck it should be gone in another three weeks or so. Don't mean to complain but, breathing hurts. Kinda takes the wind out of my sails lately. But, I'm doing my best and hoping for better days. I've been through worse. I'm hoping for a new breathe of air with the new Pro Tools and Mac. I tend to do better with music behind my sails. :)
As far as the move, I've already moved. My stuff is spread out amongst three houses. A great time to not care about material possessions. The studio is slowly getting built back up again. First, I deal with the new Mac, and then I hook the rest of the beast up. I guess I'm kind of like you, I have some great times, then some set backs. You just have to keep looking forward my friend. Reminds me of an old saying. "Shoot for the moon, and if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars."
Anyways, I've missed our chats. I'm glad to hear back from you. I am always sending good vibes your way! Please stay in touch.
