It's Country, it’s the Blues, and it’s Hard-Rockin’ at times. It can best be described as music that is as diverse as the great State that it was written and recorded in. TEXAS
With a vocal style that is sometimes classic country; to the blend of a raspy mild twang, Chris and THE ROUGHNECKS highly anticipated debut album scheduled to hit the market this summer 2009 is one that is sure to satisfy any listener. In Chris’ self titled independent debut release, Chris tells stories of tough times, tough love, and the human condition.
Chris explains, "I believe listeners in today’s music space are very diverse, and are seeking a record and a live show that can provide them with a change in pace and sound throughout the listening process," he says, "but the most important thing is that, what we do is real and from the heart.” “We are not pushing for a certain sound”. “I just put the story down on paper, arrange music for it, and allow it to be what it is".
Born and raised in San Angelo, Texas and now residing in the Denton County area, Chris says, “As a native Texan, it’s very easy to be drawn into writing songs about my wonderful home State, and the great people and places that surround it”. “I feel that Texas is blessed with so many artists, singers, and songwriters that do such an outstanding job in singing and writing about Texas, that I felt it right to leave it up to them”. “For now anyway”, he says with a grin.
For this record, Chris and THE ROUGHNECKS worked with Grammy award winning Eric Delegard who has recorded and engineered such great acts in the Texas/Red Dirt scene as Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, and NO JUSTICE. Delegard brought in one of the Texas/Red Dirt godfather’s, JJ Lester of the GREAT DIVIDE to assist in co-producing the album. JJ Lester well known as the driving engine and drummer for the GREAT DIVIDE has co-produced records for NO JUSTICE, and also co-produced hit songs such as WHEN IT RAINS from the ELI YOUNG BAND.
“I am really excited about the record and hope it will be a great launch pad into our career in the Texas/Red Dirt Scene”, Chris says. “I believe this record really reflects where I was at in my life at the time I wrote these 11 songs”. “I had so much to get off my chest and tell about, that it made it easy for me to spill my heart knowing that so many other people have also gone through these same things, or will go through them at some point in their life”. " Since they are so personal to me, I chose to go at the record as a solo songwriter".
THE ROUGHNECKS are currently working to schedule their own touring.
Chris says with a boyish grin, “Although I'm extremely excited for people to hear the record, I am more excited to what draws me to this business, and that is the live shows”. “Having played over 1000 shows in my well known, yet much unknown career, I’m anxious to get back to the stage and to the bars where I feel most comfortable”.
“My goal is to ensure that every single person that attends a show, feels as though they have made a great decision to spend their time, and hard earned money with THE ROUGHNECKS on that given evening".
