Chris Atherton first picked up the guitar twenty years ago, taking lessons from Newmarket area shredders John Nelson and Pete Swann. He played in a high school rock band (Chronic Insomnia) though soon started branching out into Jazz and World Music. He attended the Humber College music program and studied with Toronto area guitar greats Tony Zorzi, Rob Bulger & Ted Quinlan while majoring in composition under the guidance of Tony Mergel.
Chris has played in various original and cover bands (GST, Hitmen, Lifters) before settling into composing original music with Mark Ayton. They played in various bands together and started writing original compositions with Mark on his main instrument drums. Mark being a multi-instrumentalist led to them trying the combination of acoustic guitar and mandolin, and it was an instant success. In addition to performing Chris has taught guitar for the past 10 years and continues to teach around the GTA.
Chris is currently teaching Guitar Lessons in the Toronto area (Bayview & Sheppard). All ages and styles. Half hour or hour lessons. For more information call me at 905-505-1973 or e-mail atherton_chris@hotmail.com
