Born to Liverpudlian parents living away from home in deepest darkest Dunstable, Chris said hello to the big bright world after the long hot summer of '76 ...by the age of 6 months, his dads big white headphones had already taken up residence on young Mr Hunters head... ...just before his first birthday, Chris and family moved back up north... ...by 2 years old, Chris had realized it was possible to put two records together to create a 'blend' or 'mix'. By posting them both into the top of a convector heater, he noticed he could create a new product that would flow out of the bottom... much to his fathers dismay... By the time he started school, he had got a sense of rhythm and had taken up playing the triangle, and later progressed to the wooden block, then the recorder, then the violin, the piano / keyboard and finally the guitar.... ... in '83 he watched a young Greg Wilson on the channel 4 show "The Tube" demonstrate how to phase and re work a 12" record with the aid of a REVOX reel to reel and was amazed, then later saw Chad Jackson set a world record mixing on Blue Peter, Chris caught the bug and was determined to be a DJ. He would make tapes at home with two home stereos and a microphone, and give his first ever ' MIX TAPES' to friends and family. After realising the beats from Grange Hills 'JUST SAY NO', would never sound right next to Ashford and Simpson's 'Bourgie Bourgie', Chris saved his paper round money and paid a visit to Woolworth's and bought his first 12" house records: Farley Jackmaster Funk & Darryl Pandy's "love cant turn around" and Steve Silk Hurley's 'Jack your body'. He met his long time friend and later dj partner Jamie Lloyd, when he started high School. Their shared love for the four to the floor beat led them to nightclubs, seeing the likes of K KLASS and SASHA on a regular basis. It wasn't long before the two were putting on house parties of their own. In 1995, Chris & Jamie became residents at Preston's now legendary weekly shin-dig CHEEKY MONKEY, playing US house to an appreciating funk hungry audience. It was here that they met guest Dj's Dick Johnson and Ben Davis who were spreading the gospel according to Paperecordings... In the same year, Chris & Jamie took up residency at the university's students union, to host the weekly Tuesday night hoo haa 'FREE 2 DANCE', where students rocked week in week out to sexy house and funky filtered Sneak style beats. Two years later, Cheeky's closes its doors for the final time, but the pair stay with the 'Monkey crew. They find a new home at club Solid – Formerly Le Millionaire and re-emerge as GREEN, where they enjoy a 2-year reign of terror. It's during this time that Chris and Jamie build a humble home studio, and produce 'DA MASH - UP E.P.' Now going under the DJ / Production guise DA MENTALISTZ (a name derrived from an infamous Alan Partridge sketch), the duo hand a cd-r to K KLASS when they appear as guests at GREEN. Two weeks later they receive a telephone call from PHAT PHIL COOPER, and are told their efforts are going to be the first signing to be put out on the new 'NORTHERN' label - the brainchild of CREAM favourite Phat Phil and Russ K Klass. It is from Green that the two take on a bigger residency, and join the ranks at FEEL. Taking over from the LUVDUP's in September of1999, Chris and Jamie soon make the funky room their own by stamping their trademark sound of decks, FX and US House all over it. Since joining FEEL, the boys have notched up international status by playing Ibiza, New York, and even…….wait for it…..North Wales…..Tidy!! In 2000 Chris became licensee and manager of Preston's premier bar BASE, and along with the boys from FEEL they took it from a dirty old boozer, and turned it into somewhere you could hear an array of evening sound tracks for the more discerning. Da Mentalistz hold fort as Feels Funky room residents over the next few years, out of term time the boys played the first, and then asked back to do another leg of the CREAM x 10th Birthday celebrations Tour of the country, played both of Feels Summer parties "CARRY ON..." in the glorious Ribchester countryside, the very highly regarded and sumptuous BED in Sheffield, with resident and old friend Corey, and the VIP TENT at CREAMFIELDS... In may 2002 Chris left Base to go full time as label manager at SHABOOM records, catering to the needs of some of the heavyweights of house: DJ SNEAK, DOC MARTIN, BLAKKAT, ONIONZ & JOESKI, JOSH WINK, KING UNIQUE, UBU, MAGIK J... Chris & Jamie are separated when Feels main room resident George Thompson leaves the infamous amphitheatre to travel round Australia, Jamie, having felt the dark side of the force in his soul steps into Georges shoes and hosts the main room, while Chris plays somewhat of a floating resident role playing tougher in the main room, when the need arose and keeps the funk alive and does what he does best in the funky arena the rest of the time. During the next few years Chris held a string of residencies and plays guest appearances at some of the cooler bars & clubs in the Lancashire & Manchester area. Hush in Preston, Revolution in Lancaster & Preston, dates at Modo in Liverpool, Bed in Sheffield, Misdemeanours in London alongside the lovely Lottie and uber soulful Aaron Ross, The End with DJ Sneak, Layo & Bushwhaka!, Concrete in Carlisle with Lil Devious…… Alongside house, Chris has always felt the funk. The roots of where it all began. Disco, Northern Soul, rare groove, jazz funk, stax, motown, Salsoul. He's a long standin member of the Philosophie Crew and often played alongside Nathan Hearn, The Barefoot Dj Will Stone, and Disco "Dave Belushi" Williams on there various excursions through all things cool. It is the love of his soulful side that caused him to assemble the Sunday Soul Collective and a night simply called "Sunday Soul". A weekly Sunday shindig at the Adelphi in Preston spinning vibes from the likes of Bill Withers, Funkadelic, the JB's, Minnie Ripperton, Sylvester, Larry Heard, The Committee, Salsoul Orchestra etc.. to an appreciative and educated audience. A super-cool way to chill out and wind down from the hectic weekend, in relaxed and comfortable surroundings. Chris' adopts the funk alter ego KENNY JAEGER and The collective morph into a larger ensemble called SUPAFLY, picking the tempo up a little but keeping the essence there of having the funk. Hip hop, 80s grooves and real electro, P funk, Jazz Funk, House, Disco – it's all thrown into the melting pot! In a nutshell over the years Chris has been a dab hand at spinnin, whether it's on the old 1s & 2s, CDJ's or taking it a step further using EFX units or piloting Ableton or Traktor. More often than not it's a mixture of all of them. No matter what you play from, your still spinning discs – they may be compact discs, wax discs, or hard discs. Who cares? As long as you are doing your job and playing trax to people who love what you do. Chris has an electic taste and can tailor his sound to where and who he is playing to. A versatile Dj who is not afraid to embrace and experiment and has a passion to entertain and educate. ..........................................

    SUPAFLY BIOGS!!!

Down at Supafly we love the funk. We have over a century of DJ years behind us and it shows, on our faces (with the exception of Miz Diz) and in our record bags.

We play without boundaries, it just has to be funky, and we believe the man who made it is cleverer than the man who played it.

So here are the squad, in short, for your approval.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Jalapeno sets bulls running with his 'Jellybean' nights in Preston, where he and his squad play alongside guests such as Bobby & Steve of the 'Zoo Experience' and Alix Alvarez. He started out in a late 80's Soul, rare Groove and Acid Jazz collective that led to radio work for a Jamaican run pirate radio station in Bradford (Paradise City Radio) later playing out on Unity FM, Leeds.

The soulful arm of Supafly, like most of us, Steve's time as a regular at likes of the Hacienda, Hard Times and Back to Basics, led him to love the House music of the time, and the funk, soul and disco that created it.

    http://www.myspace.com/stevejalapeno

Miz Diz is the Head of Roller Skating at Supafly. What? A roller disco queen that plays records? You bet your 4-wheeled boots she is.

Her love of roller skating saw her spend as much time listening for tracks at roller rinks as she did skating backwards, leading to the purchase of her own records and decks.

Success in a DJ competition was the catalyst for a second career in DJ'ing and a busy itinerary. A cast iron electro boogaloo jock, the Diz plays it all and plays it all well.

Miz Diz is currently resident at Blackburn's legendary Jazzy Keks alongside her commitments with both Supafly and the Philosophie collective, she has for years been a fixture at some of Preston's coolest bars in D:ream, Voodoo Lounge, Base and Hush.

Skating whilst she plays, she puts the rest of us to flat footed shame.

    http://www.myspace.com/mizdiz8

Kid Blast is Supafly's B-Boy in residence. After spending the early 90's playing at most of the legendary northwest clubs of that era, including Angels, The Empire, The Hacienda, 051, Maximes, Zone, Sequins, and Bowlers amongst others, and supporting most of the rave scene legends (Dream Frequency, Love Decade, Awesome 3, The Prodigy, 808 State, Shades of Rhythm, Hardcore Uproar) he decided to quit dj'ing in the late 90's to further his qualification gained at Manchester's School of Sound Recording and concentrate on studio engineering and working with live music after teaming up with Pete Orme from Awesome 3.

Since coming back into the DJ fold he has been a lynchpin at Blackburn's Jazzy Keks and latterly with Supafly and Philosophie, bringing a trouser shaking edge to proceedings with his block party style. Expect The Clash and The Stone Roses to join Primal Scream as they fuse with Schooly D, KRS1 and Cypress Hill in a floor trembling stew that takes your taste buds to town.

Matt3r is our turntablist. Technically adept and musically open minded, he brings the wicky wicky to our waah waah sounds.

Whilst playing at Blackburn's Cellar Bar, he gigged alongside the mighty Number 9 Crew; and met Si T AKA Syclops who invited him to join his crew, tha Wax Anorax, with Mr KD. Tha Anorax were a regular presence at UK DJ Battles (although principally to watch and make notes as the likes of Woody, Ritchie Ruftone & Tigerstyles did their thing) and vibed off a mutual love for hiphop and its elements.

Stepping out across the North West, Matt3r played Liverpool's Sunday Service at the irrepressibly funky Magnet, Manchester's Wax Tactics at Revolution Oxford Road and Revolution Deansgate Locks and at A Kut Above The Rest upstairs at KRO2.

    www.matt3r.co.uk www.myspace.com/matt3rdotcotdotuk

Chris Da Mentalist is the former label manager at Shaboom Records, catering to the needs of some of the heavyweights of house: DJ Sneak, Doc Martin, Blakkat, Onionz & Joeski, King Unique, UBU and Magik J and has for years been one of Preston's most popular and likeable DJ's.

Early residencies at Preston's Cheeky Monkey and Green led to a consistent spot at one of the country's most successful house clubs in Preston based Feel where Chris played with some of the worlds biggest DJ's with King Unique, Graeme Park, Timo Maas, and Pete Tong to name a few gracing the club over the years.

Along with playing at Edan in Ibiza, he later guested for Cream, Liverpool's 10th Birthday celebrations, Creamfields and at Bed in Sheffield, Misdemeanours in London alongside the lovely Lottie and uber soulful Aaron Ross, Godskitchen, The End with DJ Sneak, Layo & Bushwhaka! and Concrete in Carlisle with Lil Devious.

If Supafly was an Airfix plane, Chris would be the glue, the plastic bits and the instructions all rolled into one. In short he keeps us going, keeps us smiling, and reminds us that we should never take DJ'ing too seriously. He does this whilst laying out the funkiest Disco, Funk, Electro, Hip-Hop and Breaks there are.

Oh and he has to have a machine to play with, he can't just DJ, it has to be done with a converted barn as a mixing aid…or something.

    http://www.myspace.com/chrisdamentalist

Matty Wainwright, all-round mischievous scouser, keeps the Supafly armoury stocked with underground disco bombs, classic groove, street soul and 4/4 bounce. Heavily influenced by the sounds of the original disco pioneers such as Larry Levan, Kenny Carpenter and David Mancuso, Matt developed his unique sound Djing for 3 long, hazy summers on the islands of Rhodes and Mallorca.

The ability to act like a giggling mischievous child before generally rolling around the floor is a skill in abundance with Matt. The only question is will he get home?

Club events have included the Orange Enjoymusic Tour, London Film Festival, After Dark London 2003 & 2004, Virgin Move, Fruitstock (Innocent Drinks) and The Real Music Festival amongst others DJ'ing with DJ Yoda, Pete Gooding (Café Mambo, Ibiza), Xpress 2, Martin Brew (J-Walk) and many more.

Matt has just returned from three months DJ'ing in Mumbai, India and has the longest hair in the world as a result

    http://www.myspace.com/mattx57

Dave Belushi has been around longer than House music itself, producing his northern twist on the scene, Dave led the launch of Cheeky Monkey, a close intimate club night that kept the vibe inside and the attitude out.

From the sun-kissed isle of Tenerife to the shores of Manchester, Dave is a veteran with more music than HMV. Playing with both Philosophie and Supafly collectives, Dave introduces a jazz-fused sound reaching into new sounds with reggae, hip-hop and funk.

With Philosophie he has been resident at Hush for 4 years, also spending time with Nathan Hearn and Matty Wainwright at Modo in Liverpool. Philosophie offshoot Citron Saw him play with Bill Brewster (Last Night A DJ Saved My Life), Beatphreak and Blackbeard

Dave was last seen stealing a golf buggy when playing at the Leeds Festival last year, but we're assured he'll be back in time for Sol-Set

    http://www.myspace.com/davebelushi

Nathan Hearn has a simple mantra, if it's got the funk, it's got the vote.

From the sublime, heart breaking soul of Al Green, to the instrument breaking hedonism of Hendrix and Keith Moon, even his dads love of Woody Guthrie, Muddy Waters, Elmore James and Robert Johnson have led him towards the world of funk and then hip hop in between.

With a gig-ography that includes playing alongside Farley Jackmaster Funk, X-Press 2, David Holmes, Andy Smith and DJ Yoda as well as artists such as De La Soul and The Specials, his years of DJ'ing have been spent on hoarding records, borrowing headphones and spread betting when the dancefloor will fill up.
