Besides the obvious (all things musical) I am a life long runner, 3 marathon's and countless other races. Love to stay fit by hitting the gym, running, swimming, skiing, hiking and whatever else I can do to get fresh air and a sweat going! Love visiting with my family more than anything in the world, and I love Dogs. If I had a rock stars budget I would have a personal massage therapist 24/7 and did I mention I love beer. Many other interests but that's enough for now.
Music
Anything that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and that gives me goosebumps. Although I'm a rock and roller and blues guy by profession, I like any style or genre as long as the artist or band is giving it to me for real!! If I walk in and hear Buddy Guy going through the motions I'm out the door, and if I walk in and hear a really bad cover band but they are playing their balls off, I stay. It's that simple. Give it to me like you mean it.
That being said, I worship great songwriters! They are all my muse. Dylan, Lennon/McCartny, Bruce Cockburn, Joni Mitchell, James Hatfield, Chuck Berry, Red Hot Chile Peppers, Brian Wilson, Jagger/Richards, Plant/Page, Ray Davies, The Boss, Kurt Cobain, John Hiatt, Van Morrison, James Taylor, Eddy Vedder/Stone Gossard, Willie Dixon, Aretha Franklin, Martin Sexton, Stevie Wonder, everything from Mowtown, Muscle Shoals, and Stax, etc. etc. etc. You get the picture.
By the way, sorry to some of you, but I hated " LA Hair Metal" when it was hot in the 80's and I still hate it.
Movies
Raging Bull, Good Fella's, Apocalypse Now, Silence of the Lambs, basically dark stuff. Although I love Farrelly Brothers movies (they are twisted)and great comedies too. Love James Bond, and I'm a softy for the romantic comedy I admit.
Television
Seinfeld, Soprano's, Six Feet Under, All In The Family, Boston Legal (James Spader is brilliant)and sports!
Red Sox, Patriots, I'm a die hard!
Books
I've read many terrific books, but with my schedule I have become a magazine reader. I can finish a good article before I fall asleep.
About me: For the past 14 years I have truly had the best job in the world! I get to write and record songs and play my guitar for thousands of people every year. I am a full time professional musician and leader/frontman of the Chris Fitz Band. I believe I have passed the 2000 gig mark and only hope I'm lucky enough to play another 4000 or more before I play my last note. There is no place I'd rather be than on stage or in the recording studio!!
My band has struggled and paid many dues over the years but it seems things are starting to really pay off. A half dozen music awards later, over 10,000 CD's sold with no record deal or distribution, a 4th CD almost in the can for a spring 2007 release, a great Eurpoean Tour under the belt and a tour schedule of 200 shows a year expanding to California, Memphis and beyond, I really can't complain!
The greatest and most meaningful compliment I get from fans is that they always say "you really love what you do, it bleeds off the stage". They are correct, I love what I do!!
New and exciting news!! The Chris Fitz Band has been nominated for our second Boston Music Award!! If you remember, with your amazing help and support we took home the award for "Outstanding New Blues Act" in the 2002 BMA's. Once again we are so honored to be recognized for the 2007 BMA's. It has been 5 great years in between and as we continue to enjoy the success of our new CD released in May we are now asking for your help once again.
The Boston Music Awards are decided by a 50/50 vote, split between a panel of industry judges and most importantly YOUR VOTE!
