   About Chris Greive
Born & raised in Perth, Australia, Chris attended Churchlands High School (Music Scholarship 1981 - 86) before obtaining his degree in Jazz Performance (incl. Arranging/ Composition 1991) at the West Australian Conservatorium of Music. As professional trombonist Chris has played with Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Shirley Bassey, Kenny Rogers & Jerry Lewis (plus many others), arranged & composed for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (Toshu Fukami), Perth Jazz Orchestra (Jazz Yatra Festival, India) & his composition "Take the Light" was featured on the BMG Jazz Club CD Taking Notes Vol 2. He was a finalist at the Australian Brass Awards at the Wangaratta International Jazz Festival.

As a Jazz trombonist Chris has been fortunate to have worked with many greats of the Jazz world incl; Bobby Shew, John Clayton, Jeff Clayton, Frank Foster, Jim McNeely, Phil Wilson, James Morrison, Barney McCall. And has performed with bands that have supported; James Brown, Tom Jones, Tony Bennet, Bill Frisell among others.

Since moving to Edinburgh 8 years ago Chris has performed with numerous bands incl. Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (lead trb & composer/arranger - Orcadian Suite, Tribute to Thelonious Monk), Salsa Celtica (2 albums - Greentrax Records) & Haftor Medboe Group (Linn Records). His education experience is broad incl. West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (1995 - 99), Lecturer in Arranging & Ensemble at West Australian Conservatorium of Music (1996 - 2000) & National Youth Jazz Orchestra Scotland (2004 - 05). He wrote a concert of Big Band music (transcriptions & original arrangements of popular songs) for Scottish Blues legend Tam White (& the SNJO Feb ‘07) & performed with his co-led trio, NeWt, at Glasgow Jazz Festival 2007.

Chris is currently working with Aberdeen Strategic Arts Unit (incl City of Aberdeen, Moray & Aberdeenshire) on their Creative Maths project & Edinburgh City Council’s Pilot Jazz Development Programme (Improvisation & Composition) based at Portobello High School (2008) as Project Leader for Thick-skinned Productions.

the flying song-now its not often i listen all the way through something but that was nice sort of reminding me of Airto and Flora -I don't know about the flute player on the walking trombone though
