my influences mixed with my own influence, sometimes while under the influence. i consider "it's hard to explain" a compliment.
What do you do when the band you created and played in for three years breaks up around you? You start from scratch. Chris Hamlett found himself in that situation when I Don't Know, the band he co-formed in 2000, broke up in the spring of 2003. He had some songs written for the band, but since it broke up, he recorded them acoustic and released an EP called Gather 'Round the Campfire under the name Lo Fi Romance. He only handed out a few copies, only played two shows, then moved to Nashville in the fall of 2004. He moved back after only four months of living there, and in December of 2004 put out a two song CD called the Christmas Pseudo-Seven Inch with a couple of Christmas songs recorded with just electric guitar and vocals. He handed out an even smaller amount of those himself then "vanished" somewhat. The beginning of 2005 found Chris frantically writing and recording a dozen new songs he had started on in Nashville, but this time it was different. He was recording them the way they sounded in his head; fully orchestrated with every instrument played by him. Once the dust settled after a month of feverish recording, Chris found himself with a twelve song record that sounded nothing like anything he had ever done before. Tired of living under pseudonyms, he released the record, called A Complete and Unabridged Documentary, under his own name. This record did better than any previous endeavor and saw Chris playing more shows than ever before as well. Once the summer of 2006 started to come to a close, Chris felt the creative fever strike again. So he dove headfirst into writing and recording again, but this time utilizing even MORE instruments. The process was an even more tedious one, and the record took three months to create. But now, Lights, Camera, Attraction is ready to be unleashed. Featuring fourteen diverse tunes that highlight an ever-evolving musical history, this record promises to showcase the sound that Chris has utilized previously while also introducing a new branch of musicality as well. Lights, Camera, Attraction is available for purchase now!
Playlist.com is where I go...I don't think it shows recommendations or anything. I would try Amazon.com for that ~ they show recommendations for what you purchase.
