In 2007 I began reporting the top ten most spun Colorado releases that KRFC FM Fort Collins was playing, to the Colorado Music Buzz. The CMB is dedicated to sharing what radio is doing in Colorado, for Colorado artists.
At the end of 2007 I wrote my first "View From Behind the Mic" column for the CMB. I began calling on radio people to find out what Colorado music they'd been playing. I was dismayed (and excited it turns out) to learn that the VAST majority of Colorado releases never make it to MOST radio stations.
I sent out emails to 60 bands asking how many radio stations in Colorado they'd sent cds to for airplay consideration. They answered with an overwhelmingly dismal <1 on average.
I launched the Rocky Mountain Music Network on March 1st, 2008 to service Colorado radio and Colorado print media with Colorado music. Today, our reporters include: KRCC (Colorado Springs), KHEN (Salida), KBUT (Crested Butte), KSJD (Mancos), KRFC (Fort Collins), and KAFM (Grand Junction). That's one hell of a start y'all.
There are some 289 radio stations in Colorado. Of those, 48 have stated they'd love to have someone service them with Colorado music. 22 have free-form formats, meaning each dj spins whatever they want. If you represent a band/artist in Colorado and you're interested in my services, please shoot me a message and provide a number to reach you at. If you're a radio station interested in reporting your Colorado music spins, please do the same. I look forward to promoting Colorado music.
