The current line up consists of Mark Spall (congas), Mark Shand (bass) and Mark Thorn (keyboards). I know, three Marks in the band can be confusing. However, after many band name suggestions (Drowning Family, Pale and Secret Show, Awkward Silences, Dead Giveaways, Ten Cent Poets, Secret Filmshow, Car Crash Cinema, etc), we will probably be called something else at some point. Please watch this space for more details...
Influences
Influences are legion: Jeff Buckley, Roy Orbison, Paul Buchanan (Blue Nile), Josh Rouse, Ray Davies, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, Nick Drake, Robyn Hitchcock, Pete Yorn, Neil Young, Big Star, Crowded House, Waterboys, Counting Crows, Go Betweens, REM and anyone else who can carry a tune better than me!
Chris Macorkindale was born on 6 March 1969 in Winchester, Hampshire, Great Britain of Scottish parentage. He is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and arranger of great experience and a stage performer in the classic acoustic tradition.

"I have always been fascinated by guitars. I wish I could say that I was influenced by the Smiths and the Velvets at an early age, but the fact is that, as a pimply teenager, I was more into Iron Maiden and Motorhead. So I picked up the guitar at the age of 14 with a view to emulating my heavy metal heroes. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough hair to grow long so that idea went out the window. Still, my taste in music improved and I never lost my love for the guitar and a well crafted tune."

Chris is a familiar face at many leading London venues and, after a break from music to pursue a nursing course, he has returned to the fray ready to throw his all into music and performance. He currently works as a healthcare professional in Tooting, South London.
****
"My claim to fame must be either shamelessly chatting up Rachel Stevens from S-Club 7 during a broadcast of Chris Tarrant's Capital FM Breakfast Show or telling Boo Hewerdine at one of his gigs that he had great potential! I also had the pleasure of playing bar billiards with a pre-Iron Maiden Janick Gers in an Ealing student pub when I was 18. He absolutely thrashed me! Must be all that time spent hanging around recording studios!"
****
Chris has been a resident Londoner for the last 13 years and has been writing songs for much of that time, building up an extensive repertoire. Venues he has performed at in the past include the Mash Tun, (Winchester), Soundhole@Windsor Arts Centre, Upstairs@Hope and Anchor (Islington, London), Half Way Crazy Club, (Red Lion, Colliers Wood), Canterbury Wholefoods Cafe and Canterbury Christ Church College Student's Union.

So, what can you expect when you listen to his music? Chris is a versatile songwriter and his songs reflect various aspects of his life and experience from strange characters he has encountered to exotic places he has visited. There are tales of thwarted romance and a good deal of soulful introspection. Chris also addresses matters arising from his committed Christian faith, which reinforces the spiritual heartbeat of his music.
****
"My approach to Christianity is fairly liberal and unorthodox, which has got more to do with how my mind works than any doubts about my faith. A bit like Moby if he was an Anglican."
****
As a vocalist, Chris is influenced by Jeff Buckley, Roy Orbison and Paul Buchanan (Blue Nile). His Gospel-tinged vocals have an intriguing range, rising from a plaintive whisper and a choirboy falsetto to a full-blooded roar. He also possesses a naturally dynamic, fluid and resonant guitar style.
****
As a songwriter, Chris is heavily influenced by Josh Rouse, Robyn Hitchcock, Nick Drake, Neil Young, Pete Yorn, Crowded House, Big Star and Counting Crows.

If you like original acoustic material with strong melodies and articulate lyrics, delivered with passion, sensitivity and a sprinkling of dry humour, check out the MP3 demos on MySpace.com, because this is for you. Better still, catch Chris Macorkindale live and see him rip it up on stage!
