With a soulful, powerful voice and emotional songs, Chris Mann has emerged on the scene as an artist-to-watch. Beautiful and diverse, Chris' debut EP showcases his unique style of classic songwriting, lyrical melodies, dynamic range and unforgettable pop hooks that puts his voice where it belongs; Up front and center. Chris' blend of classically-trained tenor and contemporary pop vocals is a sound that is rare in the world of pop music today.
Chris began his professional career as an opera singer in Italy after graduating from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Classical Voice. While overseas Chris' path was forever changed when he visited a psychic on the opera's closing night. The cards were revealed and consequently, Chris returned to the U.S. (New York City via Nashville), to concentrate on his true passion--writing and singing his own pop songs.
Chris' new direction soon caught the attention of music industry heavy-hitters including Greg Wells (One Republic, Katy Perry, Mika), Walter Afanasieff (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion) and Mark Hammond (Josh Groban) who lined up for an opportunity to work on Chris' record.
Chris has toured with Grammy Award-winner, India.Arie and Tony Award-winner, Idina Menzel and has performed at numerous high profile events including the Sundance Film Festival and the pre-Oscars Young Hollywood Party. In addition to touring, Chris has been successfully developing his global fan base by thoroughly embracing social media platforms. His popular, witty YouTube videos, his weekly blog posts MANNblogMonday at ChrisMannMusic.com and his growing Twitter, Facebook and MySpace followings exhibit Chris extensive communication with his MANNfans online. "The MANNfans mean so much to me,” Chris comments. “I respond to every Tweet, Facebook and MySpace message they send to me."
Growing up in Wichita, KS, Chris began playing the piano and performing for fun at a young age and decided to take music seriously when he discovered that singing was in his blood. He knew his grand father use to sing but when he confused his grandpa's old demo recordings as Frank Sinatra records he knew there was more to the story. Chris immersed himself in the classic Sinatra and Tony Bennett records but also became inspired by R&B and pop artists like Brian McKnight and Robbie Williams. "I always knew I wanted my music to be as diverse as my influences. I love to write and sing intimate ballads but also love to feel an up tempo beat and make people dance--I'm an entertainer either way. "
Chris' new 5-song offering, entitled EP, features an arresting version of Kanye West’s ‘Heartless’ as well as four co-penned songs. EP is available everywhere on August 11, 2009 and Chris is currently recording his debut full-length album that will be released later this year.
