Chris Merkley began playing music publicly at the age of 14 and has since traveled to a dozen countries, performing on countless street corners and club stages throughout the United States and Europe. Drawing from influences such as Little Walter, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers, Merkley blends numerous incarnations of blues music as it has evolved through the decades. With the combination of resonator guitar, blues harmonica, stomping feet and baritone vocals, he carves his style between the generations of blues, folk, and rock music.
Since becoming a full-time musician in 2001, Merkley has composed original music for HBO, completed four tours of Europe and six tours of the U.S. with The Crooners and has also performed and placed original music in several independent films.
In May 2006 Merkley released an acoustic album with his long-time friend, Steve Morgan, and later in the Summer of 2006 released an acoustic/electric album with the Crooners. He now resides in New York where he is working on several new recordings, including the 2009 release of "Thirty Miles from Nashville", and the conversion of a 38ft. school bus into an eco-minded tour bus, a project dubbed the 'After School Special'.
