Sounds Like
"Chris Parreira writes songs like he was born to do it...and plays them like it's what keeps him alive..."
-Lila Nelson, Singer-Songwriter/KHUM DJ
"Chris's music contains an honesty that is rare in the modern songwriter. You can feel the open road in his songs. You can feel the ecstasy and the loneliness. You can feel the adventure. From the first line, you know this guy is living it."
-John Craigie, Traveling Folksinger
"Chris Parreira is a guy with good street sense, learning a lot from his travels and bringing that to his music. You want to catch him when he gets to your town...
-Rod MacDonald, Folksinger-Songwriter
"...Folky with a hint of old-time county (before country was pop)." -Melody Stone, The Eureka Reporter.
If you had told me 3 years ago that I would be touring and getting paid to play music I would have thought you were crazy. Don't get me wrong, I'm nowhere near famous, and even further from rich, but my music has helped me see some beautiful places and meet some amazing people that I might not have otherwise. For now, I'm just along for the ride.
I was born in Dallas, TX, grew up near Yosemite National Park, and moved to Humboldt County when I was 8. I spent the next 13 years of my life in the "Lost Coast", and started playing music at Open Mic's in Arcata, CA. When I was 21 I moved to Ashland, OR where my songwriting started to blossom, and I now live in Austin, TX.
I'm doing my best to get as far as I can on my own. I book my own shows, do my own promotion, record my own albums. In March of 2008 I released an EP called "Chasing a Muse", and in March of 2009 I released my first full length album "Before You Go".
I've completed three tours in the last year, two to the Pacific Northwest, and one to the Southwest covering Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Alot of people compare me to Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams, and while I take those comparisons as very high compliments, I feel that my own voice and sound is beginning to surface.
The people who inspire me the most are the people you've probably never heard of. The John Craigie's, Marc Jeffares' and Gene Burnett's of this world. These are the people I play gigs with and the people I see at open mic every week. They're all over the world, and they're better than most of the bands that get played on the radio.
I've had the honor of sharing the stage with: John Craigie, Marc Jeffares, Rod MacDonald, Lila Nelson, Strix Vega, Be Brave Bold Robot, The Mighty Lonesomes, The Tao Jonesers, Todd Krider, Shireen Amini, The Mostest, Mister Vague, The Maybe Sometimes, Penguins on a Rock and many others.
Most of these artists (and then some) are in my friends list below.
nice song! I played on the same stage y'all did! yAY! been trying to write a road song, nothin comes out though, nothing worth the melted pavement on my tires. well i knew i'd be gone long, over the mountains and through the snow, back with stories that'll make you think i'm a liar
