I've always been a creative person. When I was a child I pursued art and drew sketches of landscapes and monsters, some of my drawings were featured on the Cartoon Network show Toonami and displayed on the walls of my school. Later on I was exposed to Soundgarden and the deep lyrical verses of Chris Cornell and found I had a knack for poetry and creative writing. After receiving finalist status in a couple poetry contests and getting published in numerous books and cds, writing music seemed to inevitably be the next step.
I was about sixteen when many of my friends started playing music, every kid on my block was playing some kind of instrument, but not many played bass. Since I was always the kind of person that did things differently, I decided I would take up bass. The moment I picked up the bass I knew it was the start of something special. I was instantly hooked and played for hours every day. I became more passionate about music than any of my previous endeavors and after only six months of playing I was writing my own music, and after a year I was playing better than my instructor.
I didn't consider a career in it until I met Steve Howe (Yes, Asia). I was at a guitar show soloing in a booth and I didn't realize Steve Howe was standing right behind me listening to me play. I later on approached him for his autograph and he gave me his pick to show he respected my playing! That was when I decided to pursue music professionally. I decided to take music classes in college and I recently earned a scholarship to Five Towns College for my playing, a scholarship that is rarely received by bass players.
To this day I still have the same appreciation for music. I feel that I'm far from my potential and that there is so much left to learn. I'm constantly listening to jazz, fusion, classical, bluegrass, reggae, ska, rock, metal, classic rock, blues, etc. for new influences, inspiration, and new twists to my already twisted style. I hope you enjoy my weirdness :P

That's so weird considering I can find myself when I'm signed in under my alias (and 'we' are not friends)... Try looking for Mel Austin and then filter the results by school: FIU. My profile pic right now is a blonde anime-ish cartoon girl (me actually). Hopefully that helps you find me.
Awww- you are too sweet good sir. A scholar and a gentleman. I'd love to do cover art...Oh, but you never did friend me on facebook. Look for belovedmel@yahoo.com.

No, I believe their more recent bassist is the one who was injured. I just left because of creative differences and just simply not having enough time or money to devote to the project. They are a great bunch of boys though :)
