sharkey is a co-founder and proud member of the leeds improvised music association - LIMA
chris sharkey was born in gateshead in '78 and now resides in armley, leeds.
he plays guitar in no particular style with lots of different people.
"Sharkey is at the cutting-edge of contemporary improv-fusion guitar technique, colliding headlong free-jazz phrasing with roaring thrash metal riffs and ghostly electronics." JOHN FORDHAM - THE GUARDIAN
"Guitarist Sharkey’s astonishing technique sees him produce a vast array of otherworldly sounds from his battered looking Fender Strat, creating a torrent of angular flurries, gut-wrenchingly heavy, chugging, riffs and spaced out looping. He’s one of the most exciting young guitarists on the UK scene, and one that might just find fans in both free jazz and avant metal camps." - JAZZWISE
"New boy Chris Sharkey's guitar playing is jaw-dropping. He sounds great on the band's terrific new album, Living With a Tiger, but to see and hear first-hand the impossible whirlwind of extraordinary shapes and sounds he makes is something else again." - ACOUSTIC LADYLAND REVIEW - THE GUARDIAN
"Chris is a highly creative and seriously motivated artist. His stylistic range is really huge and I'm certain that he has an amazing future ahead of him." - JOHN SURMAN
>
"consistently unhinged and exploratory" - JAZZWISE
"Chris Sharkey's guitar snakes through a variety of pitchshifters and delays and provides a constant abstract stream of drones and dentist drill outbursts, with nary a fusion lick or 11th chord to be found." - BBC MUSIC ONLINE
