Chris Shepherd has lived a musical life beyond his years. As a young boy he remembers listening to his dad's blues and soul albums. Artists like BB King, Bobby Blue Bland, Otis Redding, Al Green and many more. Then as he got older he went through a time warp of rediscovering many of the original rock and rollers like Chuck Berry, Bo Didley and Elvis. Chris even had a time when he listened to country music where he discovered the similarities and the common thread of influence that connects most American roots music. As a teen he was influenced by a lot of the early eighties pop music and then when he started getting more serious about playing guitar he decided he wanted to be a rocker. Listening to a lot of the "big hair bands" and then coming full circle as he began to return to his blues roots through guys like Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn. He began to listen to the people that influenced many of the 70s blues rockers.
Now Chris tries to be open to using all of these influences in expressing himself through music. His band is often billed as a blues band but his songs cross many musical boundaries and incorporate many styles of music.
With a unique blend of Blues Soul and Rock Chris' style is a mixed bag of tasty goodies. He has played and recorded in Miami, Seattle, St Louis and throughout the midwest. He is probably more well known for his contemporary blues and rock gospel songs he has written over the last several years but he has also been making some noise recently with the Band Kingdom Brothers. ( www.myspace.com/kingdombrothers ) These guys are some red hot players from the St Louis area and are further proof that St Louis has some of the most talented musicians in the country.
