Chris Sterio Biography
Isle of Man's Chris Sterio has spent the last 8 1/2 years pursuing the goal of pushing his project Source of Gravity to all corner of the dance world. Critical acclaim has been forthcoming with DJ support of Chris Sterio & Source of Gravity material from Paul van Dyk, Digweed, Sasha, Oakenfold, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Dave Seaman. Favourable reviews in the dance media have come in Muzik, M8 Magazine, DJ Magazine, IDJ plus many more magazines and websites worldwide. There also have been compilation licensings in Belgium, Germany, Holland, the UK and the USA.
The label side of the project has seen over 80 releases with the cream of the progressive artists featured. On the DJing front Chris has travelled to Greece, USA, Portugal, Switzerland, England, Scotland and Corfu as well as having mixes featured on radio stations in 15 countries including Germany, Argentina, Canada, Ireland and Denmark. Productions and collaborations under the Source of Gravity, Chris Sterio, Sterio & McGrath, Sterio & McClellan, Outlanders, 4th Orbit, Blast Furnace and Shanghai Corporation names have shaped Chris DJ sets and of course the labels. These productions not only surfaced on the 4 in house Source of Gravity labels, Source of Gravity Records, Gravitation Records, Gravitation Digital and Source of Gravity Digital but also stellar labels like Dorigen, Pied Piper, Mechanism, 3 Beat, Nascent, Pangea, Propulsion and Confi-dance.
2006 saw Chris latest labels Source of Gravity Digital and Gravitation Digital push further forward into the new digital era. With releases from Sterio & McGrath, Tim Mills, Section 75, COU Muzik and Paul Bowen for release in the coming months it bodes well. Chris also started to build a strong team around him with Section 75, Hadi Burpee, Chad McNeely, Sasha Le Monnier Sean McClellan & Tim Mills joining in various roles. Also there was the start of a Source of Gravity Proton Radio show, and Chris writes regularly for Beatfactor.net. He has been stateside 5 times out of the last 6 years playing and producing, hitting locations like San Francisco, Tampa, Charlotte, St Petersburg, Charleston, Columbia and LA.
2007 kicked off with more recruitment to Source of Gravity with the likes of Sasha Le Monnier and Hadi Burpee onboard. The magnificent Sterio & McGrath track "Scarlett Point" is now out after DJ support from Hernan Cattaneo and DJ Taucher, a worthy follow up to Paul van Dyk favourite "Gulfcoast" - Chris has also provided regular mixes for Scarlett FM and Club IOM to go with regular mixes for Energy FM and Proton Radio. Chris has completed his 3rd US Tour in October 2007, and is set to return to Charlotte, NC to play more gigs and complete more production in Dec 07. Mr Sterio has also recently launched Gravitation Digital and his Blast Furnace Presents show on www.clubiom.co.uk is weekly (Saturdays 6pm) and features all the latest Source of Gravity artists/sounds. Chris was also added to the Richmond Records Promo Pool DJ and S3 Promo Pool rosters for the fall 2007.
2008 saw the release of Chris’ latest transatlantic collaborations, this time with key Source artist Sean McClellan – “Langness” and “Independence” were recorded whilst Chris was on tour in Carolina, USA. The Source of Gravity Conference 2008 took place in Charlotte, NC in October 08. 8 Source of Gravity artists attended for a series of gigs as well as promotional, radio and production work. The Conference 08 spawned two new releases for Chris personally, with new mixes of Sterio & McGrath – Scarlett Point available on the “Carolinian EP”, and the release of Sterio & McClellan – Crowder’s Mountain due in the fall of 2009. Winter 2009 is due to see some of the original Source of Gravity artist tracks available digitally for the first time, this will co-incide with approximately 10 years of the Source of Gravity project.
