GeneralLately I've been all sorts into my new job. It's odd to think that I excel so average-ly at writing yet have a voracious knack for selling. It's, honestly, like GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS but I never have to wonder who's going to get the steak knives; I'm getting those leads. Odd but true. I guess it stems from my inability to just let PR flacks tell me "no." I see it as an invitation; ironically, when the wife says it I am all about sitting on my hands. I know better...
MusicRight now? Again, the ADHD might render this next sentiment useless by the wekend but...

John Mayer. The guy does possess mad skillz...

MoviesIn order?

Another thing that bothers me about lists of favorite movies is that every knob slobbin', moviephile will put the innane gold standards on their list as their favorites and that's somehow indicative of their sweet taste in movies.

Por ejemplo: "My Top 5 of all-time has to include Citizen Kane, Dr. Zhivago, Jaws..."
Yeah, I get it. You're well-rounded. You're granted entrance into the Awesome Movie Watchers Club. What I like to see are the Dark Horses on one's list. Citizen Kane and Co. are like R, S, T, L, N and E; they're gimmies and they offer me no real insight into one's viewing habits.

My own Top 5 This Week (Again, the ADHD...) includes:

Bottle Rocket
Star Wars (Before it turned into fully animated tepid donkey puke)
Strange Brew
Going Ape
The Day The Earth Stood Still

This selection always seem to change when I go to grab something from the viewing shelf and then remember about things like this list; I should probably get some kind of medication.

TelevisionMy absolute (submerge to superlative depth...) favorite show is Frontline on PBS. I am anal about making sure that it is recorded every week even though I know the trusty TiVo will do it. As an aside, I see a lot of people decrying the Boob Tube as a medium that's best left turned off (And that's fine if you want to leave it at that) but when the comments stray off into groundless finger pointing about the decline of Western Civilization thanks to our network overlords these sanctimonious, righteous band leaders need to watch Frontline's multiple pieces about the war in Iraq, the growing social problem with Meth, the sex trade in Europe and what big pharma is doing to the drug policies in this country. Have an opinion if you like but don't toss out the baby, the bath water and burn the whole damn house down in your defense about why you won't let your brood watch the Hitachi.

Attack of the Show is also getting heavy play on the TiVo; well made and gets me my daily dose of tech in one hour.

Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021 (Yeah, I also suffer from arrested development; I should've brought that up earlier).

Lost, Scrubs, Amazing Race (Say what you will about reality shows...), The Henry Rollins Show (Comin' back this Spring, wOOt!) and The Sopranos round out what I am phyically able to watch in any given week.

I know there are lots of people who are saying that Veronica Mars, Battlestar Galactica, 24, The Shield and others are these terrific shows but I just don't have the physical time in my day. Maybe when I'm independently wealthy and lighting cigars with dollar bills will I be able to view all that the cathode ray tube has to offer.

HeroesG.I. Joe (Keepin' it real even in my 30's.)
Bill Hicks (Relentless
was a cassette I bought almost 15 years ago and it's still bitingly relevent.)
Denis Leary (Great ability to just rant endlessly)
Marcel Proust (Taught me everything I know about the joy of sensory experience)
Shakespeare (Say what you will about my man Bill and his possible collaborations with Christopher Marlowe but the playwright knew how to peg people and their inner motivations)
The man who made my TiVo (I would gladly run my sword through anyone who tries to take away my ability to blaze through Glad Ziplock advertisements.)

   Chris's Blurbs
About me:
-Toiling away in the catacombs of North Scottsdale, the equivalent of 'Fornias O.C. judging by the amount of silicone sloshing around here, where I enjoy the freedoms that central air has provided.

-I write. A lot. I can't seem to stop. It's like diarrhea of the fingers; except here, in this case, it doesn't get all over the shorts. You can check my weekly writing and HTML skillz out at my column over at Herr Kevin Smith's Quick Stop Entertainment.COM. It's been a great pleasure to be able and be a part of Kevin's 'Poop offshoot and I can't think of anyone else who I'd rather be day laboring for on a weekly basis.

-I am a crazed weasel when it comes to 80's schmaltz. Specifically, I am addicted to finding videos of old Nickelodeon shows like Mr. Wizard's World, You Can't Do That On Television, Double Dare, even that crap show in your local channels for kids called Fun House, hosted by that J.D. guy. I about plotzed myself when he popped up again in that crap show on Fox a couple months ago.

-I watch movies. I should say I USED to watch a lot more movies than I currently do. Kids will do that to you. I don't mind it so much as I find it makes me appreciate the ones I do watch when the crying, yelping, arguing, fighting, screaming, thrashing, throwing is all done with for the day.

-I like music and think that a marriage between an online music retailer and the Pandora Project would further drive my interest in new music into bankruptcy.

-Podcasts. I would make some kind of "crack" metaphor but it's so ill suited to describe my fervent desire to listen to a lot of what's out there.

Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone who isn't going to bullshit me. I'm tired of empty a-holes who want nothing more than to waste my time with their inability to be honest, direct or straightforward. I live off honesty. Glutton for punishment I guess.

If I had to say something...it would be, Why don't men wear more capes? Not cloaks, but capes. I think they should bring those bad boys back. Thanks for the add and I look forward to reading your next column.
