  • June 18, 2009: New Songs

Three new tracks up on the myspace page. The first two are of the dreaded TOPICAL SONG variety; or call it NOVELTY Mad Magazine (more than WEIRD AL) song if you will. The semi-comical town crier singing about the HMO crisis to the tune of Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues and/or Pere Ubu's final solution. The weird helpless need to do SOMETHING/Anything---my "little drummer boy" gift to the movement. The mixes are a little rushed, but I'm impressed with the work WILLY THE MAILMAN did at BEAST OF BADEN studios on short notice (and thanks also the rhythm section of THE GRAVES BROTHERS DELUXE)....I want to get these out there quick; so if you like them (or even just like their message)...pass em along to anyone you know (especially if he's Michael Moore or Stephanie Miller...)...

Today would have been my mom's 67th birthday. So I'm also putting up a never released song called "Golden Arrows, Silver Bombs," which I wrote not long after her death (one of those unconscious songs---these are the lyrics that came out at the time). It took me years (till after my own near fatal accident) to record it (thank you ELI CREWS), and still feel weird about making it even semi-public via myspace. David Eggers apparently was much less queasy...but after the "comic relief" of the HMO songs, I kind of need something with personal pathos gravitas, etc....

    Current mood:played

Just some brainstormin' on what SF Bay Area local scene can do to help inhabit, if not fill, the void, left by NICK TANGBORN

  • Hemlock Tavern: May 27, 2009 (The Curious Mystery, Cripple Sideshow Farewell Tour)

May 27th, 2009, at SF'S Hemlock Tavern, the final show of the Cripple Sideshow Farewell Tour.

Come not for me, but for It

Or come for the touring band, The Curious Mystery (debut album just out on K Records).

Or, bring any poems, or ideas for song lyrics, or any percussion instruments.

I go on by 10PM (Hemlock is on POLK St. one block north of Geary in the Loin)

I'll be playing a couple new songs, with FAUSTINE from Curious Mystery joining me on drums and trying to put other people's lyrics to some solo melodies

(a slow sad one, and a more danceable one)...

Jed Pinnell may be joining me on accordion.

My poetry/fiction workshop students will be there.

There may even be a TUBA.

Be there or be a RHOMBUS!
