From baby showers to bar mitzvas, department stores to divorce parties, with more than a few clubs, concerts, and clinics in between, I seem to keep trying to scratch a living from playing the bass. Not that I mean to imply that my sound is scatchy, although there are times I am sure it qualifies as such, but what I mean to say is that playing for a living is not always the easiest way to pay the bills. Perhaps you already know that. Perhaps you have bills too. You might even scratch a bass (or hit things, blow air into stuff etc.) to try and pay them. If so don't hesitate to say hi, I'd like to know how it's working out for you. All I know for sure about me is that neither the bills nor the scratching sound seem to go away easily. In mid 2000 I began performing with my bass tuned in fifths, something that I continue to do exclusively. I'm not sure that it has been the best idea ever and it certainly has it's downsides, but it does have ocaissional rewards as well. And I happen to like the sound. Sometimes. I fully intend to get some songs up at some point. And probably a bio section in the blog space somewhere for those that are interested. Personally I'm not much for bio's, too often they are misleading if not down right false. And wouldn't it be better to like someones playing because of how it sounds to you rather than who they have played with? I have enough people asking for one though that it seems like I'll need to just do it anyway, but it feels a bit like doing my taxes. No offense to any accountants out there.

The members of my band would be me. I did quit once though when I got in a big fight with myself. Or maybe I got fired, in either case I didn't speak to myself for about a year, but I'm really doing much better now. I'd rather not dwell on the past anyway, except when it's to my advantage.
  • Influences

I've got as many of these as anybody. It seems almost as if anything that ever influenced me would go here under "influences". That makes the list kind of long.

    Hi Chris,
I hope you are well. My new CD "Lemonade" is out and you can hear a few samples on my myspace page. First one in 10 years! Just go to:
http://www.myspace.com/folkjazz It was a joy to record, we did it as a trio, live in a circle without headphones. Also, I moved to New Mexico last month. It is SO great to be back in all the beauty and slower pace. I hope you enjoy the CD. It is available for purchase at cdbaby!

    Take care,
    Jennifer
