This is what I've heard: Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Paula Cole, Sara Groves, Sara Bareilles (basically, a few Saras), but we're open to new opinions. :) Husband claims I sound like my mother. heh heh
Since this is myspace, I feel like I can just tell you who I am--in 1st person, that is--rather than a formal bio. However, IF you are a formal bio kind of person, by all means, please visit my blogsite: www.christawells.net
Here in Myspace Land, I can say simply that I'm a songwriter and a singer. I love words and I love to read and I love to talk. :) I write on piano and usually alone, though I have done some co-writing with some pretty amazing individuals.
Stage fright and a basic need to grow up in some other important ways kept me from performing my own music much for a few years. Now, I feel as though I'm back to where my heart originally expected to be all along...sharing the stories and the experience with music-lovers directly. That's the most fun now. It's like the beginning of another life, this discovery.
I write to better grasp this life here on planet earth and the life I expect to find after this one is gone. I have written about death & grief, love of all sorts, sibling rivalry, faith & doubt, hope, repentance & forgiveness, regret, joy & laughter, Jesus the God-Man, friendship, weather and mountains...It's all there.
Music is simply a common place for us to meet. It's the fire around which we gather, where we roast marshmallows and hot dogs side by side.
I could go on...I have a penchant for rambling.
Other fun facts:
I was GMA Songwriter of the Year in 2006.
I wrote a song called "Held" which was a big hit for Natalie Grant.
North Carolina has been home for the last 12 years.
My kids are objectively the cutest on the planet.
My husband is, objectively, the greatest.
I have a dog named Dasher who is, objectively, not the greatest. But we love him still.
My other faves: Thai food, spring, chocolate, dark coffee, growing herbs, skirts in summer, flip flops, the Office, Arrested Development, uber salty popcorn, sleeping in a cold room with warm blankets, traveling just about anywhere, Germany, spaetzle, quiet spaces, loud music, clean counters, hardwood floors, my siblings & parents, my neighbors & my church.
What I'm not good at: painting my nails, word problems, Rook, grilling steak, being nice in the middle of the night, team sports, filing papers or putting away laundry, remembering birthdays and anniversaries, myspace design. :)
So. I think that's enough for an introduction. Hopefully, you'll stick around for the good part, which is the music. Let's hang out and get that nice smell of wood-burning fire in our hair.
Hey Christa! Just wanted to say hey, since I haven't talked to you since we went to lunch a few weeks ago. All of your music is great and I hope I can see you play sometime soon!
Thanks for adding me to your friends. I really enjoyed listening to you. There are certain places in your voice that really sounds like Sarah McLachlan especially in the song Weightless. Wish you continued success with your career. The combination of you and Nicole hits the mark!! God Bless
