My official bio... haha Born in her house in La Canada, CA, Christel South discovered her desire for a career in music while attending Crescenta Valley High School, where artists such as Eve 6 and System of a Down originated. Christel has always sung in school and church choirs; she also participated in numerous musical theatre productions, scoring lead roles in "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella," "Scrooge," "The Music Man," "West Side Story," and "Guys and Dolls." However, she didn't realize that she wanted to pursue a music career until somewhere between the releases of Britney Spears' "Oops, I Did It Again" and Christina Aguilera's "Stripped."
Inspired by the incredible performances of these two icons as their careers developed, Christel began studying under vocal coach John Henny, who was instrumental in sculpting Christel's vocals. All the while, Christel has been developing her songwriting skills. Christel writes all of her own lyrics and music, and can take credit for nearly all of the arrangements and production. Influenced by artists ranging from Garbage to Britney Spears to Eminem, Christel has been compared most to Fiona Apple, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, and even Bjork (although that was just this one weird guy). Christel sets her sights high and hopes to have a long and rewarding career writing, performing, and one day producing as well. Who knows... maybe one day she'll run for President!
