   Chris Champagne's Comedian Bio
BioChris Champagne is a writer-performer, poet, and political satirist based in New Orleans:

My poetry can best be described as stream of consciousness or surrealistic, with a definite bent toward humor. My satirical work is overwhelmingly political.

First book, ROACH OPERA, published by Portals Press, New Orleans in February 2007 www.portalspress.com

Have performed both poetry and satire live on stage in New Orleans, San Francisco, Raleigh NC, Santa Fe, Austin, Natchez MS, Lafayette LA, Washington DC and Chicago, among others.

Have appeared on stage all over New Orleans performing live satirical reviews, most of which I write myself. One man shows include CITIZEN NUMA, THE JOE HORN MONOLOGUES, CIRQUE DE DOGRIS, THE REVENGE OF HAP GLAUDI and RADIO FREE NUMA. Other satirical shows ROACH OPERA, IMPORTANT CHICKENS, HUNGADUNGA HUNGADUNGA & McCORMICK, and FEAR AND LOATHING IN METAIRIE.

Appeared on local NPR affiliate WWNO-FM's "Crescent City". And recently as a stand up comic in New Orleans and Metairie.

Appeared at Le Chat Noir in New Orleans in WIN PLACE AND SHOW, a stage show of stories about the New Orleans Fair Grounds and horse racing, 60 per cent of which I wrote.

Author and producer-director of the CD "THE CONCERT FOR RICHARD NIXON", a Firesign Theater-type work featuring the impressionist Ken Ferguson.

Written and performed in the local GRIDIRON PRESS CLUB show for over ten years, and have written over a hundred sketches for that show.

In 2003 was endorsed for President of the United States by our Senator Mary Landrieu. [I think she was kidding.]

Satirical column appeared in Sauce Picqante once a month for 18 months, and have written satirical pieces for WhereYat Magazine and Scat magazine in New Orleans.

Poetry has appeared in Times-Picayune newspaper, and several anthologies including Maple Leaf Rag I and II, Faulkner Literary Festival Double Dealer.

Member of two national Poetry Slam Teams: San Francisco 1993 as captain of New Orleans team, and 1999 Chicago as member of Baton Rouge team.

About me:
new book "Roach Opera" now available from Portals Press: www.portalspress.com

Chris Champagne is "...perhaps the best comedy writer in town." - Al Shea

"This is poetry on the cloven hoof - nothing but pure psychotic associative human beauty. He's off the beaten wall. He came to a fork in the road, and he went straight up instead. ... Chris is one of the several classic born-and-bred voices in New Orleans. This is the authentic product of Big Easiness ..." - Bill Myers (Poet)

Christian Champagne is working his way "...to creating a mythos of New Orleans thereby putting it poetically on the American sound body - and you can tell this to anyone who wants to know." - Andrei Codrescu

"Christian Champagne is one of the most ingenious writers working in the country today. We are extremely fortunate to have this kind of talent living right here in New Orleans." - Walt Handelsman (Editorial cartoonist - Times Picayune)

"What Dylan Thomas did for Welsh, Christian Champagne does for "YAT". -James Nolan (Writer in residence, Tulane University)

"Chris Champagne is a Southern Woody Allen and anyone who has ever been in love should read one of his poems every day." -Liz Scott/Modine Gunch

"He's blessedly off the beaten path, thrashing around in the landscapes of modern love and mere survival, New Orleans style, with long ruminative poems that have a reach, poignancy, and comic sensibility reminiscent of the actors of silent film. Among the other things these poems are, they are true and funny, as if Ignatius Reilly were writing Charles Bukowski ... but that's not right either. This is an original voice ..." - Ralph Adamo (Editor, New Orleans Review)

Check it: this chick survived both Columbine AND the VT shootings. What are the chances of being at one mass shooting, let alone two, let alone at institutions of learning?! She's like a real-life Sarah Conner!
