"Superb songwriting and careful production make Onward! quite a masterpiece of a debut album...Majestic piano work and a voice that envelops the listener like a warm spring breeze...Christian can sing in nearly as many voices as instruments he plays. 92%."" The Line Of Best Fit
"A soaring voice...invoking the all-time greats...flamboyant introspection: Silva should patent it." Guardian
"Big and gleaming" Uncut
"A fascinatingly untethered young talent." Time Out
Christian Silva was the nom de plume adopted by Christian Hardy for his early solo output. Christian Hardy is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer who plays in and records The Leisure Society. He is also a session musician sometimes and has been spotted performing harmonium for Swedish singer Loney Dear, piano for Gavin Clark and vocals with Dresden Doll firebrand Amanda Palmer. He also sings on the forthcoming Silent League LP.
After two EPs, Bring His Head (2005) and Break From The Past (2006) (both of which sold out), the debut Christian Silva LP Onward! was released in early 2008 on Something In Construction records (Loney Dear, The Gay Blades, Air France, The Silent League).
Onward! was in essence a selection of 13 recordings chosen from the hundreds that Christian and his musical friends had made up to that point. Dave Bascombe (Funeral For A Friend, Depeche Mode, Bruce Springsteen) lent a hand with some of the mixing.
The album received largely glowing critical acclaim and was featured in the ABC TV drama series Brothers & Sisters. A two-piece iteration (featuring Christian and drummer/best mate Bas Hankins) promoted the LP with support slots on tours with The Silent League, White Rabbits, Peter, Bjorn & John and Maps.
Christian is currently making a new record in-between all things Leisure Society. He is excited about this record. He will quite probably no longer be hiding behind the name 'Silva'. Goodbye Christian Silva, you were a schizophrenic bastard so you were.
