Originally from upstate New York and later Santa Fe, New Mexico, Christine Albert moved to Austin, Texas in 1982. She has released five independent albums including "TEXAFRANCE", "TexaFrance-Encore!" and "Paris, Texafrance", bilingual tributes to her European heritage and love of the French chanson. Christine's take on French music has been called "a waltz across Texas with Maurice Chevalier". Her time in Austin, Texas is evident in the twang that graces her renditions of Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet and Jacques Brel. Along with her band The Cow Beret Orchestra (a revolving cast of accomplished Texas musicians), in 1999 Christine performed on stage with Ballet Austin in Stephen Mills' ballet "Red Roses", choreographed to the music of Edith Piaf. Since 1997 Ms. Albert has also become known as one half of the popular Texas duo Albert and Gage, with her husband Chris Gage. Together they have released five CDs and own and operate MoonHouse Records and MoonHouse Studio. Albert and Gage perform throughout the US and Europe and toured the UK in the fall of 2006, opening shows for fellow Austinite Slaid Cleaves. A committed community activist, Christine was co-founder of the Austin Songwriters Group and has served on the board of directors of The Recording Academy/Texas Chapter, Swan Songs, SafePlace and The Austin Rape Crisis Center. She currently represents Texas on the National Board of Trustees of The Recording Academy. She has been a spokesperson for SafePlace, speaking on behalf of fellow sexual assault survivors, and produced three fundraising concerts for the organization. Christine is co-founder and project manager for Swan Songs, an Austin area non-profit that organizes private concerts for individuals at the end of life with their favorite Texas musician.
Christine has appeared on Austin City Limits, written and performed her own "Don't Mess With Texas" ad and was featured in a popular Bluebell Ice Cream television commercial. In 1996 she was voted Female Vocalist of the Year at the Kerrville Music Awards.
