"Christmas Where Are You This Year" is a song I started writing about a year ago. After shelving it for several months, I got together with Jeff Hawthorne and we arranged, recorded and mixed it.
I've wanted to write a "new" Christmas song for sometime now, in the vein of some of the great alternative/punk/new wave Christmas songs that I love listening to every season - "Fairytale of New York", "Christmas Wrapping", "Father Christmas", "So This is Christmas" and many others.
Jeff and I play together in the band Buck-O-Nine, and we have collaborated in the past on some songs I wrote that never saw the light of day. So it was a perfect fit getting together in Jeff's home studio and putting this song together.
I'm giving this away as a free download for your enjoyment. I think the song will speak to the general mood of the country this year with all the economic uncertainty, conflict and political change on the horizon, as people strive to hold on to the true meaning of Christmas, whatever it may be for each.
