It is the year 2009...
The year to do everything that I have ever wanted to do. The year to say as much as possible without saying too much to give away the big secret. The time to get things GOING!
I am currently working on several projects...
1) A Solo career as a musician...after all, we spend a lot of time alone...I better get used to it...
2) The Stilts: my Rock'N'ROLL band featuring my heroes and close friends, Mike Farrell and Chris Vogel. In my opinion.... one of the greatest bands of all time :) We plan on releasing a 7" very shortly.
3) I am a bird named Maxwell Stienfeather that plays the tambourine with one of my favorite bands; Agent Ribbons.
4) A member of the band The Stenographers in which I play bass and sing. We will be releasing our first record "Our Mythology" in late 2009.
5) Working on a series of paintings to be shown in 2010
6) Very slowly working on a book that may or may not ever be read by anyone...
About "85,87"
This album begins quietly—and moves only toward silence. Dark at first, it ends deathly black—fully undressed, just as it was born, walking down a city street—alone.
When Christopher announced that he was done recording, no one even knew that he had begun. Even Nick York, who achieves on here some of the most entrancing and tragic guitar arrange-ments imaginable, didn’t know that the recording was to begin until two hours before the session started. The entire album, including setup time, took roughly four hours to record.
The tormented passion achieved on this album transcends artistic vision, for even Christopher hadn’t planned recording on the day it all happened. And the recordings are simply too desolate and heartbreaking to be the result of trite inspiration. …But the terrible facts of life—the awful, unspeakable longings and sorrows which surely created these songs in the first place, ultimately brought this album to life with such perfection and magic that each haunting note seems to explain everything.
The surging tide of Nick York’s guitar swells, engulfing you, but never invades that living place where Christopher sings. David Houston, on bass, settles into a propulsive groove that deftly compliments the songs’ confessional tone.
85,87, in its subtlety and free emotion, is a work of honesty. Wait by the door; listen through the cracks; feel the air soften—just listen.
