Rock Like An Egyptian!! Bedlam Theatre
To my knowledge this is the only rock & roll song with phrasing in Ancient Epytian. Tabatha opens with an invocation from the original Coptic version of the chorus
For I am Peace and I am War. I am the Holy One and the Whore. [I am the Utterance of my Name]
Chris Shillock, vocals/ Tabatha Predovich, vocals/ Rich Patterson, guitar/ David Gullickson, drums/ Rush Merchant, keyboards/ Rob Aurand, bass/ Vashon Merchant, vocals/
Siouxsie & the Banshees, Throbbing Gristle, Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen. Emma Goldman, Xanana Gusmão, Villon, Blake, Timbuktu, Heathen, Eddie and the Cruisers, Kavafis, Lawrence Durrell, Django, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa and Stravinsky.
He's called the underground poet laureate of downtown Minneapolis. She is an internationally starring avant-garde singer/songwriter. With his gritty, street-wise verse and her dark, lush voice, they are forging Invisible Jazz, words and music that meld ancient Alexandria and medieval Paris with Neo-Platonism and baseball in a lyrical crucible fired by love and war and the mystical vision
We and our band played 16 shows including Acadia Cafe, Red Sea Bar, Salon Bon-Bon at Bryant-Lake Bowl, a D.E.M.O. showcase, Open Book, Cheap Theater, a Karawane Release at the Whole Music Club, Patrick's Cabaret. Hopkins Center for the Arts, and a Hip-Hop tribute to Bob Dylan at the Trocadero.
At Acadia, performing with Desdamona and David Daniels, we sold out the theater to overflowing. Our own Release packed the Bedlam Theatre for an extravaganza with dancers and special effects - co-sponsored by the Minnesota Spoken-Word Association, and featuring Lolly Pop's farewell.
We were featured in a cover story in the Pulse and our cd was reviewed by the City Pages. Of course we've received overwhelming support from the Twin Cities performing arts community. While I don't want to list any one, lest I leave people out, but special thanks must go to Dwight Hobbes, who is responsible for almost all our press.
To cap off their 10 minute play festival, the Bedlam Theatre will host a night of live music featuring The Bitter Roots playing in the Fireplace Room; Bad Accident to follow on the main stage; and UZZA to end the event. Come for the plays, and stay for the music.
Check out my Top Friends, featuring 12 wild & wonderful artists. Music from sculpture, words from dreams, art from blood, cities from schizophrenia: 100% Originals.
Please join us on Friday April 3 at Memory Lanes for our first Minneapolis performance. UZZA is: Tabatha 333 Predovich vocals, Rich Patterson guitar, Chris Ginther guitar, Geoff Mass bass, Brandon Nessen drums
