Christy (vocals, acoustic guitar, songs); Dave Armstrong (production, arranging, lots of other instruments); Rob Cross (top additional guitarin and gorgeous harmonies); Shane Kerwin (genius drummer/percussionist with lots of cool ThingsToHit); Stu Watret (top additional drummin); Christine Collister (backing vocals on some of the songs that aren’t up here yet....thanks CC!!)
Influences
...that's tricky - bein a music obsessed indie DJ once a week means i'm obliged to be into everything, but couldn't tell you who filters through my own stuff most...favourite artists include Rufus Wainwright (god i love that man! he is a phenomenal songwriter/musician/individual), Jeff Buckley, Regina Spektor, SFA, The Bees, Elbow, Jesca Hoop, Joan As Police Woman, Maximo Park, Blur, Beck, Radiohead, Tom Baxter, Ed Harcourt, Laura Veirs, Stevie Wonder, Tim Burton, Emiliana Torrini, Beth Gibbons, Aim, Jurassic 5, Jenny Owen Youngs, Jason Mraz, Ben Christophers, Aqualung (The Fabulous Hales Bros), Athlete, Repairman, Gemma Hayes, Ben & Jason, Faultline, G-Love & Special Sauce, Corinne Bailey Rae, Bic Runga, Matthew Jay, Baz Luhrman, Ellliot Smith, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Nikka Costa, Karine Polwart, Nitin Sawhney, White Stripes, Wim Wenders, Pearl Jam, Sondre Lerche.......am running out of breath but i know there's lots and lots more......
KT Tunstall is fast becoming my performer-type-hero; gawd to have her confidence. she's an utter, utter star. and well done on the brit! hurrah!
ALSO; am inspired by every day occurences; out of the ordinary events; love&everythingthatcomeswith; hate&everythingthatcomeswith; beautiful words; beautiful people; faith; lackoffaith; obsessions; injustices; hypocrisy; encounters (brief & enduring); thesea, thesky, the allaround; observing others; a beat; a chord; a melodyline.......running out of breath but i know there's lots and lots more...and i'm starting to sound very, very corny...
Sounds Like
gawd, i'd have to leave that up to you. but i spose i can tell you that 'Other People' have mentioned Beth Orton, Joni Mitchell and some bird called Rosy that I've never heard of before (and could be really rubbish for all i know, so i won't delve!) feel free to suggest anyone that might help me form a better idea of who i am...
well hello there! pleased to meet your fine self. here are some songs wot i wrote. they were all spanglified by dave armstrong at dam studios on the lovely-but-frustratingly-bypassed tiny isle of man. you might have flown over our rock on the way to america? but i doubt you'd have been able to see us - we're mostly obscured by rain. and motorbikes. and migrating geese...
musically, i would ideally like to be rockin yr socks off in a funky, homemade, eclectic kinda way, not unlike beck, imogen heap, athlete, the bees, simian, maximo park, blur, radiohead, simple kid etc etc etc, but being just a girl armed witha guitar and a slightly delicate voice (pah!) it just don't come out that way. gawdamn it. so you get what you have here. still, would love to know what you think of it.
have recently started gigging the material with a full band (gasp!), under the name of Side Project (which is me, Rob Cross on Other Vocals/guitar, Dave Armstrong on bass and Shane Kerwin on drums/percussion) which is usually like a pot luck supper of a gig - we'll do a few eclectic covers, then a few songs by me, then a few songs by Rob, then some more covers - you get the idea. i'm also damn proud to be a member of Anna Goldsmith's band - doin a bit of doo-wop backin singing/acoustic guitarring for the extremely talented lass (annagoldsmith.com - there's a video clip of 'the band' playing this year's bigwheel blues fest in my videos section).
m'dayjob is for runningmedia.com, the management company wot looks after Corinne Bailey Rae and future blues legends Back Door Slam. i'm also occasionally an indie stylee dj for energyfm. which is nice....
thats bout it really! there's a much lengthier biog on m'other website. thanks then, tata x

Well kind of. Although I always thought if you want to be professional, you can't be a musician. Well not a rock and roll musician anyway. Art is the opposite of professional. And I'm an artist ;) Wow ...inspirational or what! How's the Isle?? NY is great, but I need about ...$10 million more than i have. Oh well.
