  • Bio

Chris Warren was raised in a village where his most influential teachers were Leonard Cohen, Camus, Fellini, John Lennon, Franz Kafka, Elliott Smith, Beatles, water, Laurel and Hardy, Elvis Costello, and of course Jane Goodall. He has crafted an e.p., two CDs and now a third album with Night For Day. The casual internationalism of his home town of Toronto tends to come out in his world view. The poetic compression of his lyrics comes not only from working as a songwriter but as a poet and short fiction writer. He has spent the last couple of years working on Night For Day with gifted and sympatico musicians such as Michael Herring on upright bass, Ryan Granville-Martin on drums, songwriter Jack Breakfast on a bunch of keyboards, Stacie McGregor on piano, Drew Jurecka on violin and viola. Ron Sexsmith, Mary Margaret O’Hara and the Bicycles also contributed some exquisite vocals. Night For Day follows 2005’s Beautiful Ruins. Home recorded during a hiatus of some seven years from his first album, Beautiful Ruins is a note to self of questioning & depression, and a subtle & layered exploration of Warren’s musical impulses, probably impossible to have achieved in a conventional studio, unless you broke in late at night, many nights. In James Paul’s production, Night For Day is relatively spare compared to Warren’s previous work, and the emphasis was on capturing the right live performance. It is superbly recorded and engineered. The wide spectrum of Warren’s songwriting finally meets with the perfect band to convey the restless shifts in feel, from jazz to psych-folk to acoustic-alternative. Everyone seemed to have a good time making it too. .. ........ ...... .... ..              ..Zunior..                      ..iTunes..                ..iTunes.. ..                                          ..MapleMusic..        ..MapleMusic..

    Hi Chris,

    Thansk for your kind comment.

I put a new song up. It's calles "Another Disaster Waltz".

Actually it's not really new. I posted a lousy demo of it already last year. This is the final version you'll find on my first CD to be released shortly.

Maybe it's quite a good soundtrack for the current crisis.
    ;)

    Enjoy! Any comment welcome.

even socialists are too right wing for me now. I'm becoming something that I can't describe. you should definitely come for Philip Glass. now that I work for The Met, I'll probably even be getting free tickets for that one, although we don't usually get them until the day of the show.
    cheers,
    d.a.
