Chronic Vibe Records was birthed in 2003 – the brainchild of Alan
Tattoli and Allessandro Gladden. With two independently produced and self-
financed CD’s under their belts, Chronic Vibe is always seeking outside promotional support in order to expand both creatively and commercially.
The two brothers stem from a highly diverse artistic background – family members include musicians, actors, writers, artists and designers. Growing up in an environment where music and art were a constant presence proved a most nurturing climate for their respective abilities. As time progressed so did their talents, manifesting in Sandro’s constant commitment to creative composition and Alan’s continuous relationship and appreciation for the hip-hop art form.
At age 24 Alan acquired a pair of Gemini turntables with mixer – his initial foray into the world of sound reproduction and reconfiguration. Over the next two years he experimented and explored the possibilities of this and other related technologies, which took him further into the realm of digital music creation. Meanwhile, Allessandro began venturing into lyrical wordplay, free form composition, and rhythmic rhymes. Economic necessity brought the brothers together and produced their first effort “Chillin’ Villain”. With no PR and limited CD release, the summer of 03’ generated considerable local buzz, but due to a lack of funding further promotion was not pursued as total profits earned amounted to approximately $250.00. All funds were re-invested back into creating cleaner sound, higher production values, and enabled the group to perform live on several occasions, including; multiple skateboard competitions sponsored by Stiffy’s Board shop, house parties, hall parties, and street-corner rapping. All performances were paid on a ‘by donation’ basis. Once again any profits were reinvested into the company.
The following spring Alan a.k.a. ‘Alussion’ attended the Pacific Audio and Visual Institute’s sound engineering program. In May this provided the opportunity to record in a professional studio environment, resulting in six 24-bit vocal tracks, within a three-hour session. These tracks were than shelved as work began on a fresh project. Newfound accommodations, which also doubled as a minimal home studio, allowed them to utilize the experienced gained from the first album and new equipment was acquired. A sound booth was designed and constructed, a five track Beringer mixer, an Oxygen 8 midi keyboard, and project studio microphone were also included in their purchases with the intent of producing a product superior to that of their initial effort. After only six months their new album, consisting of fifteen tracks, is currently entering its final stages of post-production and will be self-distributed until other possibilities become available.
‘Chronic vibe’ by definition is a long lasting, instinctive, feeling or reaction. I would say that their music embodies this characterization and anticipate that, with support and encouragement from people such as you, Chronic Vibe Records will continue to prosper and become a staple in the Canadian music community, and beyond.
