Chuck Credo IV is a fourth generation New Orleans musician. At the age of six, Chuck was thrown into the local scene playing guitar with his father and grandfather. Both Chuck Jr. and Chuck III were successful bandleaders in New Orleans, Chuck Jr. leading the Basin Street Six for over thirty years taking his music around the globe several times. Chuck IV's musical upbringing in Jazz, Blues, and Rock 'n' Roll started him on a path that has brought over twenty years of classic performances with artists such as THE MIXED NUTS, THE TOPCATS, ROCKIN' DOPSIE JR, AMANDA SHAW, JOURNEY, TAYLOR HICKS, EDDIE BO, THE DOOBIE BROTHERS, and many others.
Today, at the youthful age of 27, Chuck has become one of the most respected and sought after guitarists and Hammond Organ players in the Gulf South, often spotted supporting artists in The Harding Group out of Chicago, Il.
In 2007, Chuck began recording his first full length album entitled "Quarter Life Crisis." This recording spans a plethora of musical influences and includes several original tracks like "Quarter Life Crisis", "Crash Landing", and "Late Last Night". Chuck pays homage to his influences as well, recording a reggae version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing", the Derek and the Dominoes classic "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad", J.J. Cales "Things Ain't Simple" as well as songs by John Hiatt, Jerry Lynn Williams, and Bob Dylan.
The idea behind "Quarter Life Crisis" came in early 2007. "I was one of these people that had his entire life planned out, a certain career path, a certain girlfriend, a certain lifestyle...at the age of 26, I had everything planned out and ready to go," explains Credo in a 2008 New Orleans radio interview. "I then went through one of the most horrendous experiences of a break-up that turned my life totally around onto a totally different road. Having wore out my friends listening to me, I thought the only way to get these feelings out...to totally deal with the pain...was to write and record this album of songs."
" 'Quarter Life' is in a pop/rock format, which is something I struggled with for a long time. My first thought was to create an all-blues record...to help deal with these sad feelings. Several of my musician friends and I started that process of making a blues CD and we will finish it soon....but I found that these songs that I wrote from March 2007-May 2007 really needed proper attention, and the best idea was to couple these songs with similar material that came from my biggest influences THAT DEALT with the same emotional situation that I was in. The process has been a totally healing event for me and I am blessed to have the gift of music to be able to express that to others. I hope this music may help someone else who has been/will be in that same situation. I found that as my friends are getting to the age of 25 and up, we all seem to hit this point where we say, "am I doing this right, is this what I wanted? Is this what I planned? I think most of us now have enough life behind us to look back and say we wished we did things differently in some situations. Quarter-Life Crisis is about those feelings of 'what do I do now?'"
Chuck on the cover: "The cover is an abstract view of Grand Central Station in NYC. When I was younger, my family would sometimes answer the phone, "Hello, Grand Central Station"...just an expression of total confusion and the thought that there is way too much going on right now. That was my thought behind the album cover, I wanted to express the idea of what a lot of us feel at this age...We're here in a big part of our lives, but where do we go? What train do we get on? The shadows of the images walking around...I think it gets the point across."
On promoting the CD: "This is still a good question as it seems my life is planned out for the next year and half with other work around the New Orleans area. I do have every desire to put this album on the road with a band of musicians, I hope in the near future. Making this album was an important process for me, and sharing these songs with others will be the next step in the process. It will happen."
