Originally from Tuscaloosa, AL, drummer/vocalist Chuck Tilley graduated from the Univ. of Alabama
with a B.A. in Music Administration. He also studied orchestral percussion and jazz drumming with Prof.
John Beck and Keith Copeland at the Eastman School of Music. From 1980-86, Chuck served in the 313th
U.S. Army Reserve Band.
Since 1988, Chuck has done extensive international touring with acts such as Dolly Parton, Lee
Greenwood,Richard Marx, Engelbert Humperdinck, and the band Sixwire – which he is a founding member of. The band’s
first single “Look at Me Now”, on Warner Brothers Records, received widespread radio airplay and the
accompanying video was a top five hit on CMT and GAC networks. At the same time, he has kept a very
busy schedule playing not only Grammy and Juno award winning albums, but also movie soundtracks,
various TV shows and national jingles – ranging in musical styles from country , hard rock,
contemporary blues , and big band jazz.
2007 was his third season to be featured in the house band for the TV show "Nashville Star" on USA
network. He has also appeared on numerous other TV shows on all of the major networks, including "The Tonight Show" , "Ellen" and the "CMA Awards Show".
In the fall of '07 , Sixwire appeared on the Fox TV show "The
Next Great American Band". It was produced by the producers of
"American Idol".
Like "Idol", the winner of the "NGAB" was chosen by the viewing
audience's voting. Sixwire appeared on every episode and got the
rare opportunity to showcase several of their most recent original
songs as well as their versions of a dozen "cover" songs. Out of the
more than 12,000 bands that auditioned, Sixwire finished as the
"first runner up" in the finale episode that aired in Dec. of '07.
In 2008, Sixwire was featured as the
"house band" on the new American Idol produced show "Can You
Duet", which aired on the CMT network. It was the number 1 rated show during it's airing. The format was similar to "Idol", but for duets only. Sixwire will be back for season
2 in 2009.
When not touring or doing TV work with Sixwire, you can also
catch Chuck on TV and on the road with Randy Owen, the lead singer of
the super group Alabama. Randy will be doing numerous major music
festivals this summer and fall in support of his newly released solo
album. Chuck is also touring & recording with pop/rock star Richard Marx in 2009 as well.
In addition to the artists mentioned above, Chuck has toured, recorded and/or performed with: Kenny
Rogers, Richard Marx, Jewel, Kenny Chesney,Billy Squier, Edwin McCain, Al Jareau, Delbert McClinton, Bret Michaels,Big & Rich, Nelson, Sara Evans , Phil Vassar , Joe Nichols, Porter Wagoner, Cliff Richard , Rodney Atkins,Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean and many others.
