I like pants you can get on and off without removing your shoes. But these are changing times, so I'm willing to negotiate. Banjo's and beards have their place. The civil war for example. Will Oldham is of course an exception. I like Cooking, fishing, Photography: HAMBURGER EYES, the collected works of Bob Dylan, the Czech Republic, surfing the web for real estate south of the border...............And yes, I dig Dylan. Not in a some corny motorcycle accident way--we all know Dylan never fell off no motorcycle. Let's face it, his Bobness is incapable of being uninteresting.... Beyond that, a good grilled cheese sandwhich and a minestrone soup can hold my interest. Exene taught me that.
Music
Greg Liesz told me that the first song he learned was On Top of Ol' Smoky.
And he often wonders if that's still all he's ever playing. Only stretch as far as your blanket reaches. That's what I say.
Movies
"What's wrong with a cowboy in Hamburg?"
-Dennis Hopper, The American Friend.........
Seeing as many movies as I 've seen is nothing to brag about. It's a sure sign of, if anything, a misspent youth....
Television
In the 80's, San Fran's TV 20 ran Twilight Zone marathons.... Nowaday's it's British TV, Prime Suspect, the Wire, Freaks and Geeks, BBC (British TV, I said that), Cooking shows... On tour sometimes nothing more than white noise is neccessary, don't know why, a sickness I'm working through....
Books
They're piled up everywhere here in my hovel. A few I've read, many I might get around to reading and even more, I'll probably never read...Like a lot of criminals, I like True Crime. I could also make some lofty choices here but what the heck… Here's a few I have read of late and some I've dragged around through at least eight various living spaces. JT Leroy, James Ellroy, Denis Johnson... Chandler, Carver, Jim Thompson, Carmac, Beth Lisik, Stan Lee, Barry Hannah, Peter Guralnick, Charles Bowden, Harper Lee, Pete Hamill, Guilty Of Everything: The autobiography of Herbert Hunke
Heroes
Heros? You mean like Marlon Brando, Bob Dylan and such? There's people I have met --some are heros and some are mentors... some are both.... I gravitate towards some seriously light hearted dudes: Jonathan Richman, Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, Carlos Guitarlos, Andy Taub, Amy Rigby, Kelley Stoltz, Barry Sobel, E Blake Davis, Mark Mallman, Janet Wiess, Ryan Adams, Lee Hazlewood, Kim Richey, Johnny Dowd, Herbert Huncke, Kelly Willis, Warren Zevon, Robbie Fulks, Mose T, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, John Fry, Denis Johnson, Jim Roll, Peter Case, Jerry Garcia, Dr. Frank, Teddi Dean Bennet, Mark Kozelek, Alejandro Escovedo, Tom Verlaine, Jim Bogios, Happy Sanchez, Steve Wynn, Lucinda!! Dan Stuart, klipschutz, Jello Biafra, Jason Borger, Aiden, JJ, Greg Liesz, Angelo, Peter Wolf, Charlie Sexton, The Mission Express, Stephie!! Gary Phillips, Alex Chilton, Steve Earle, Bob Nuewirth, Jim Dickinson, Peter Jesperson, Van Christian, herbert Hunke, Stephie Finch, Tom Waits,................( I will say that most of the people I mention here on, I can't work with anymore. They were constantly badgering me for advice.... )........ Like Mick and Keith... and going back., Jerry Lopez, Tony Alva.. me mum (mothers everywhere!), Ben Aipa, Larry David Ethan Coen, Walker Percy, Smokey Robinson.... William Goldman, Jim Carrol Adam Green, Andre Williams, Glen E Friedman, Buddy Rich, Nick Tosches, Sputnik Monroe, Jerry Lawler, Jim Thompson, Carole King, Johnny Cash, Eddy Def, Chuck Berry, Tom T. Hall, Don Covay, Jeannie C Riley, Shel Silverstein, .... the Clash, William Eggleston, James Brown, Stephen King, Bill Hicks, Curtis Mayfield, Chuck Bukowski, Art Linson, David Milch..... Michael W. → I came from a non musical family. Although my Dad did make a couple appearances in "Blackboard Jungle," the godfather of all juvenile delinquent movie's. Where legend has it kids were rioting and vandalizing movie theatres across America to the theme song, "Rock Around the Clock." I begged for guitar lessons and got golf lessons...
→ Right out of high school. One moody kid armed with a Fender guitar, post adolescent angst in full bloom, misunderstood by parents, the world at large. Enjoying the fruits of a college loan, joined Green On Red, whose country-meets-folk-meets-too many drugs Americana was one of the early warning signs of the alt country scare to come. After one E.P. and eight albums with Green On Red, headed off on his own shortly before the band disintegrated. Released Brother Aldo (Fire Records), a soulful/homespun/lo-fi/country-fried folk affair that Melody Maker called "as close to the genuine article as a white boy can get."
→After that, things got more or less interesting depending on. Depending on what? I don't know, I cribbed this off the internet. This is the place to go for the official skinny: My Official Website
I also blog here at The Brink with loads of pic's, sometimes on subject's that don't include me.

Joe South, Harry Crews, Paul Revere, Serge Gainsbourg, Paul Shrader, David Simon, Fatlip, Elvis, Barry Hannah, Stan Lee, James Ellroy, Biz Markie, That guys sister from the Fiery Furnace. Jesus, the original social drinker, and all around cool hang.... I've heard there are these bootlegs of Jesus. He's got a scratchy nasally voice and his english not so good.... Werner Herzog, Barry Gifford, Jumbo the Clown, Klaus Nomi, Castro, George Jones. Did I mention the King? Elvis. Someone once said, he seems like a real fun guy... the kind of guy that would jump over the hood of your car just to squirt you with a water pistol. What were we talking about? Well, dude, we just don’t know. Jon Wayne's Texas Funeral, Leonard Cohen, Raymond Chandler... Art Brut, WhY,
Hello, I hope your week is off to a good start.

Goodnight now and may God bless.

Made it out to the dark scary town of Winters, but seeing your show was definitely worth it! Look forward to seeing you and your rockin' band again! Joan
Hey Chuck. How are you? Got any plans to come back to the UK?
At our Newcastle show back in May, you said that pedal steelers can be busy boys. You weren't kidding. As well as all the work with the Marshals, I've recorded with 4 other artists/bands in the last few weeks and am whoring myself out all over the place! The big upside is that my playing's coming on as a result. Practice makes...
Hope you and Stephanie are well. Hi to Todd, DePrato and Kevin.
