Started playing the bass (and music for that matter...) as a sophomore in high school. The big shift happened when I moved to inner city chicago for a year. There I was privileged to play electric guitar for Rock of Our Salvation Church gospel choir. During that year, I was exposed to the soulful rhythms of a kind of music that cannot be systematized... only felt. Upon my return to UC San Diego, I was privileged to be mentored under Kamau Kenyatta, a motown cat still killin it in San Diego. It was through him that I learned how to express the soul through the swing of Jazz, the sway of Bossa Nova, the syncopation of Funk... but most importantly... my ears were opened to the soulfulness that resides in the cultural expressions all across the world. All is music... they say.
Currently, I am planted in the Boston area studying philosophy and theology at Harvard.
I like her music! So sweet, and I love the jazzy note choices she makes. Thanks for recommending her... If she's willing to write a song, of if she has some already written that I could pick from, that would be great! Thanks so much, Chuck!
Thanks, Chuck! I would love that! I would love to see what kind of music ideas Sam could come up with for me, or what we could maybe collaborate on. And by the way, saying that y'all are "nowhere near my caliber musicianship" is a very untrue statement... You guys have produced an album! That's more than I can say for myself and I'm so excited for what you guys are doing! If you wanna run that idea by Sam, I would love to talk about that possibility... Thanks so much for offering to do that for me! By the way, I'm feeling much better! Just a tail-end of the cough left... Talk to you soon!
That's great that you've been gigging more and more! Music's been good for me, keeping busy as of late, but I've been battling with my desire to work on original stuff for about a year now. So, I've been trying to see how to best get that going. I'm not a strong songwriter, but I would want to maybe collaborate, you know? Other than that, I've been fighting with a cough for like a week, and losing. :-.. Anyway, thanks for the link to Sam's process, I gotta get going to class, but I'm gonna check it out when I get back home later... Have a good day and I hope to talk to you again soon!
Hey Chuck! Thanks for the kind words and for dropping me a line... All is well over here, I hope things are well with you, too! How are things going with Sam's project?
spicy ramen is good, bbq pork buns, rob sato is good at comics, rain is good, four day holidays and i met david choe a couple days ago. whats good with you?
Thank you for the opportunity! It is such a wonderful project and I wish you guys much success! Thanks for the invite to the CD Release on Friday... Unfortunately, I'm working that evening, but I hope you guys get a great turn-out! Take care and I'll talk to you soon!
Yeah I've been trying to play more. I'm going to be playing in a local big band so I'm hoping I'll learn a lot from that. I did that guitar center drum-off and I made it to the store final in San Marcos.
Hey man sorry for the late reply. Everything is good, I'm going to be finishing up with school soon so it's pretty exciting. How is everything on your end? Any good stories?
