Although I studied music for all but 3 years of my life while growing up in Ireland, the current adventure truly began back in 1998, when I received Masters degrees in Audio Acoustics and Electro-Acoustic Composition from Trinity College Dublin. After winning the IMRO prize at the Irish National Composer of the Future contest and The Contemporary Music Cup at Europes oldest classical music contest as well as being a finalist at the International Clarinet Associations Composition Contest and the International Song for Peace Contest, I was awarded the first ever Fulbright Scholarship in film scoring, and further scholarships from The Irish Arts Council, the Meath County Council, the Irish National Training Commission for Film & TV and from UCLA, enabling me to attend UCLAs film scoring program.
Post UCLA, I've lived on in LA writing film scores - my 1st project being Michael Manns THE INSIDER which I orchestrated and the resulting score received a Golden Globe Nomination. I've also scored movies such as TERESA , HOLLYWOOD HORROR , GRACE , INTERROGATION , MANFAST , THE FACE OF DUMAS and I've even appeared on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER performing songs.
As an instrumentalist, I play the clarinet, bass clarinet and alto sax parts on my scores. After studying and practising for so many years it would be a shame not to enjoy those moments :) I usually record my own oboe and piano ( I love to use my 1917 Wurlizer baby grand piano - its a beauty.....) as well unless I can find someone with better chops, in which case it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who plays the parts!
I also moonlight as chief audio producer, composer & mixer for an Imagination Gym Company CD series released through SONY Germany in 2005.

Eliminate all BUTs from your life. Think about what the effect of BUT is in your communication to yourself and others. When we talk to ourselves we often use BUT to distort our reality in a way that leads us to go down familiar negative paths. We tell ourself a postive and then use BUT to take it away a lot of times. We tell someone that we love them and then we spoil it by saying BUT this is happening which our special person interprets as we don't really love them. I am successful BUT I am not as motivated as I want to be. Does this take away from the pleasure of being successful or does it take away the success altogether.
Use the word AND instead; you will find that you are more at peace with yourself, and your friends and family appreciate the positive talk. You will even find it easier to get rid of that other BUTT when you stop using BUT altogether.
