cimmerian rain's Interests
|
| General | Life with my husband and little boy, and my close friends...they have made my existence on this strange and wonderful plane worth the entire experience.
Music (dark, ambient, gothic/industrial, synthpop), art (abstract, classical, pre-raphaelite, melancholy, and dark) literature (British and mediaeval, philosophical/theological, historical, some non-fiction, jewelry design, band promotion and booking, creatures of equine persuasion (I'm currently beginning to learn the art of Dressage), the restoration of historical architecture, the study of alternative health, nutrition, & holistic/homeopathic medical practices, the habits and distribution of intelligent life on this planet, Asian culture and cuisine, fine wine, film (primarily independent), vintage, antiques & old things, riding my bike around town, home education (I'm an unschooler - which is a progressive homeschooling method), intimate dinners & gatherings with my close friends in our homes.
NightSpun is Boise's resource site since 2003 for dark culture, shows, & events...bringing bands to Boise in the industrial, gothic, darkwave, ebm, electro, dark synthpop, death rock, and related genres.

(Public Image Limited),Depeche Mode, Mira, Ego Likeness, Audra, Gary Numan, New Order, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Last Dance, Kate Bush, Slowdive, Cranes, Faith and Disease, Peter Murphy, Blutengel, Bauhaus, La Floa Maldita, Radiohead, Duran Duran, The Pixies, Jane's Addiction, Sarah Brightman, Emiliana Torinni, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, the Arms of Someone New, The Birthday Massacre, Gene Loves Jezebel, This Mortal Coil, Voltaire, Nicki Jaine, Attrition, Love Spirals Downwards, Erasure, Bronski Beat, OMD, Switchblade Symphony, Adam Ant, Luna, Aria, Rosetta Stone, Big Electric Cat, Dresden Dolls, David Bowie, Mark Bolan, Yo La Tengo, Massive Attack, Portishead, Bjork, Pulp, Postal Service, Lycia, Corpus Delecti, The Bolshoi, Trevor Tanner, Shriekback, Echo and the Bunnymen, Sinead O'Connor, The The, Faith & Disease, The Cult, Ayria, Underworld (one of the *most* brilliant artists of electronic music ever to set foot on this planet).
Classical:
Prokofiev, Bach (Johann Sebastian), Rachmaninav, Shostakovich, Chopin, Dvorak, Debussy, Handel, Haydn, Holst, Listz, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mussorgsky, Ponchelli, Puccini, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Wagner | | Movies | I demand something with substance...What Dreams May Come, Croupier, Existenz, Eastern Promises, A History of Violence, (love David Cronenberg), 3:10 to Yuma, King Kong, V is for Vendetta, WALL-E, Howl's Moving Castle, Pan's Labyrinth, The Constant Gardener, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Interview With The Vampire, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Lost Boys, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Sleepy Hollow, Batman Begins, Edward Scissorhands, The Human Stain (also a novel), Eyes Wide Shut, House of Flying Daggers, Hero, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Finding Neverland, American Beauty, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Howard's End, A Room With a View, Bride of The Wind, The Count of Monte Cristo, Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Dangerous Beauty, Chocolat, Horseman on The Roof, Farinelli, Queen Margot, Swept from the Sea, Velvet Goldmine, Pillow Book, Mulholland Drive (love David Lynch), The Pianist, The Phantom of the Opera, Lord of The Rings Trilogy, The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, The Village, The Breakfast Club, The Black Stallion, The Secret Garden, Mary Poppins, The Thorn Birds.
I am extremely particular about movies I will watch or purchase, so most of these titles represent those in my collection. I do not like cheesy horror, action, nor most "comedies" (since the lowest form of humor is nearly always present). Suspense, mystery, drama, & well-done horror remain my preferred choices. | | Television | Television is primarily garbage. But I love PBS...Masterpiece Theatre, Independent Lens, and This Old House, & The Victory Garden. Oh, and my one big guilty pleasure is VERONICA MARS (now retired, sadly)...Ahhhhhh.... | | Books | I am an author reader: Jane Austen: Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility (I find British society thrilling); Somerset Maughm: The Painted Veil; Gerald Durrell: My Family and Other Animals; Anne Rice: Christ The Lord; Oscar Wilde: The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Selfish Giant, An Ideal Husband, The Importance of Being Ernest; Leo Tolstoy: Anna Karenina; Henrik Ibsen: The Dollhouse; Percy Bysshe Shelley (and Mary); John Keats; Lord Byron; William Wordsworth; Truman Capote; C.S. Lewis; Colleen McCullough; Mervin Peake: The Gormenghast Triology; Pablo Neruda, Amusing Ourselves To Death; Neil Postman (it expresses completely my disdain for television). Sorry to offend anyone, but I am SICK to death of vampire and horror novels. I've read scores of them. Loved the concept at one time, it's just that it's been so overdone and so overdramatized...I'm bored. I need something STRONGER. | | Heroes | If there be anyone left to admire in this world of pop-star queens and rock-star athletes, it would be someone who stands up for what is right and just, someone who looks after others while putting themselves second, and someone who recognizes and puts forth beauty in a way that many others simply cannot. |

About me:
..
Homeschooling Mother. Wife. Health and Nutrition Educator. Freelance Writer. Technical Writer/Editor/Content Developer. YMCA Employee. Jewelry Designer. Music Promoter/Booking Specialist. Fashion Freak. I wear so many hats, sometimes I feel like I have them all on at once.
I very much enjoy the darker sides of life, but not torture, depravity, head games, mistreatment, or abuse. Although I love the night in every sense possible, I have finally come to terms with the fact that I must be active and get things accomplished during daytime hours. In the last few years, I have found I have abandoned my need for "scenes" and their trivial posturing and drama. I love life so much, and there is so much in life that is worth studying, visiting, experiencing, and knowing. Let me never be held back, close-minded, or stalemated again by the unimind of any group which seeks to place their own tastes, aesthetics, opinions, and beliefs as higher than that of any others. I may love darkness, but I long for the light too.
Love to: play dress-up and browse through the make-up counter, smell flowers on a rainy day, go shopping for antiques and trinkets, watch independent films that are thought provoking and insightful, drink fine teas and wines, read British Victorian novels, attend cultural events and shows, ride horses, visit bookstores, collect music and promote bands and artists, write, and dine at fine restaurants (when money allows!).
Having been an avid jewelry enthusiast, I have designed and made my own jewelry for over 15 years. I am passionate, emotional, strong-willed, stand up for my principles (which means I tend to be opinionated regarding things I feel strongly about), creative, concerned with treating others in a respectful and courteous manner, not jealous, spontaneous, and drawn to those things which pedestrian life may simply pass by. Since having a child, the concept of innocence has become more and more important to me. I try to immerse myself as often as possible in activities and mindsets that embrace innocence to its fullest. I find that I feel very peaceful and fulfilled when I turn myself over to the purity and solemnity of something unworldly and untainted.
I am an activist for health and for the earth. I believe in living simply, healthfully, and considerately. The way to do this is by being progressive and combining ancient, reliable knowledge and methodologies and practices with modern sensibilities. I try in earnest to lead by example that others might take note and follow. I support sustainable ways of life by purchasing, growing, and eating organic and whole foods as much as possible and by eliminating dangerous and toxic products from my home and everyday existence.
I have an extreme dislike of and aversion to jealousy; I believe it is one of the most negative emotional responses and causes more damage than just about anything else in human relationships. When I see unwarranted jealousy exhibited in an excessive fashion, I reject and remove the source of the problem from my life. Life is too short and much too busy to deal with such pettiness. It is important to strive to reach a state of being that embraces passion and the heights of beauty, strength, wisdom, and peace.
I very much believe that if a person works hard and is diligent at obtaining a good education and occupation in life, it does not make that person spoiled or elitist. Good things come to anyone willing to work hard and do what is necessary to achieve something worthwhile. What makes a bad person is inappropriate behavior, motive, and intent, which are all ultimately revealed by the choices made and end results of those decisions. If you do not enjoy working hard and acheiving things due to hard work, please don't chide others for doing so. It's all about personal choices. ..

Who I'd like to meet:
Below artwork by Amanda Penrose

Progressive, open-minded persons who are interested in expanding the current knowledgebase of alternative health practices and treatments, preserving the environment and wildlife, individuals who are proactive about their lifestyles and embrace the beauty of simplicity while rejecting excesses and practices that lead to disease & deterioration such as overconsumption of oil and other natural resources, all types of pollution and toxifications of our precious planet, and chemical and genetic alterations in the natural food supply.
There are no intellectuals, only knowledge, viewpoints, and opinions. Truth is such a difficult thing to come by; I'd love to happen upon someone who can present just a little of this instead of some stilted facade that never quite meets the eye of the beholder who looks upon it. Rings and layers that guild themselves around us are the very things which hold us back from living a true existence. I enjoy getting to know individuals who have a strong sense of identity, possess style and creativity and a bit of insanity (without psychosis), treat others with respect and courteousness, are not jealous or boastful, enjoy language and words, believe in personal integrity and honesty, are not afraid to be themselves or to take accountability for their personal behavior and stand up for themselves and others when the occasion arises.
