"It is the most sonically sculpted set we've heard this year, and repeated listens reveal greater and greater dimension in the production and recording." -Clicky Click Music Blog
"It's quite reminiscent of the remarkably multi-personalitied Philadelphia band The Lilys, but also akin to more recent bands such as Grizzly Bear -- both with whom Cinemasophia have shared the rock stage. It's a lush, yet loosely woven tapestry of dream pop, shoegaze, and post-rock. In turn, the band can be all warm and fuzzy, robust and driving, introspective and intimate, fiery and dissonant." – Aquarius Records
“Cinemasophia make music that is complex and catchy and interesting, yet never overwhelms the listener. Case in point: Given Hell, off of this record. This tune starts out with a walking bass line a la Shipping News, then adds in voice and guitar and drums, and keyboards, and more voice, and more guitar, etc. And then, at some point, the sound is dense, a real cacophony surrounding the listener. It is like taking a nice walk, and first you notice a few trees, then, without really being aware of the transition, you are in a forest.” – Evil Sponge
“They have a shoegaze side to their music, which is undoubtedly how they ended up on this bill, but their post-rock rhythms set them apart from the pack. The band’s male-female vocals were lovely, contrasting dissonance with harmony to propel the music forward. Crashing, heavy jolts give way to sweeping melodies. Shimmery guitars and ricocheting drums kept the music lively.” – Radio Flyer Review
“Cinemasophia are crafting bedroom ready tunes that are nonetheless sure to rattle the windows from their panes. Tracks like "Pet Enemies" simmer with an undercurrent of electronic warbles before dipping into guitar heroics near the song's end. The band's intense use of volume disparity and sonic shifts give their music an unpredictable and electric feeling, churning behind a Firefox window for a few minutes before bursting up and making the listener click on the iTunes icon to see just who is that playing again. Very addictive.” – Cannibal Cheerleader
“The first day Cinemasophia was to begin recording the new album, “Fits & Cycles,” a fire started next to Sound of Music studio, giving the group more time to wrangle the static below and build up more twinkly layers of Chicago-school indie-pop. And “Detailed Night” has one of the year’s best lead-ins.” – Style
Fits & Cycles is out now on iTunes and from Little Black Cloud. "Detailed Night" is available on Style Weekly's "Sounds of Richmond" we're giving away the rest of the copies of our limited edition tour EP.
