PARALLAX VIEW's Blurbs |
About me:
The mass media focuses on global issues and problems in a superficial way, often glossing over causes and potential resolutions. This year, Parallax View looks at modern conflict from an on-the-ground perspective, seeking to provide practical ways to become a part of the solution. Some of the highlights this year:
Award-winning photojournalist Andrew Stern and Democracy Now! videographer Ana Nogueira have just returned from Lebanon to premier Samidoun: A Multimedia Journey Through the 34-Day War in Lebanon and Its Aftermath at Cinematexas' Parallax View.
The following day, we'll turn to our own gulf's disaster by showcasing a full day of films, speakers, food, and music from New Orleans including: Robert King Wilkerson who spent 32 incarcerated, 29 of those in solitary confinement in Angola Prison, for a crime of which he was exonerated in 2001, and Common Ground organizers Malik Rahim, Scott Crow, and Lisa Fithian. The Nubian Queen Lola will be serving gumbo, while Big Chief Kevin Goodman and The Flaming Arrows play traditional New Orleans second-line funk.
On the final day of Parallax, we'll top it all off with Muckraking for the Masses, a workshop with renown investigative reporter A.C. Thompson, accompanied by the investigative artist, journalist, geographer Trevor Paglen who will reveal his findings from spying on the CIA. This duo will also highlight the materials covered in their soon to be released book Torture Taxi: On the Trail of the CIA's Rendition Flights.
Parallax View brings film, artwork, music, interventions, activism, journalism, and their respective creators to challenge this regime’s hegemony and skillfully escape their stranglehold on the media. *See blog entries for full schedule and details of films, events, and speakers *See my pics for stills of films, photo presentations, and speakers
