Cinque Cento plays post-lounge—a type of music that arises after you’ve been out on the tiles and recovering in some chill-out café the next day, when you step out of that lounge and its mental lull to find the chilly, biting air reawakening something in you, something that makes you form the firm determination—in a blatant break of the promise you’d made only moments before, telling yourself you’ll never do this no mo’—to go out again soon, perhaps even tonight; anything other than this.
That’s all well and good, you say, but what does the chill-out fatigue that is ‘post-lounge sound like? Needless to say, the musical inspirations that have prompted and provoked Cinque Cento into compulsively honing music like a kid in a candy store sweat shop are too numerous to mention, but what typifies it are layered, sonic textures and an almost compulsive attention to detail—details which aren’t buried in the mix for autistic audiofiles to spot as if looking for Wally, but in-your-face abrasions to snap you out of your slumber. The musical references are much the same—melancholy dub, life-affirming R&B vox, ’60s bass hooks, a little souljazz sprinkled on top here and there, all in an unholy trinity of the ’60s, ’80s and ’90s, as interpreted by a retro artist from the future—but the Cinque Cento is done playing Mr. Nice Guy, adding rough fuzz-bliss drums & bass like fairy dust melting in your mind, not in your ears. (That’s earwax, you dirty little soap dodger!)
So hop on in for a wild (but responsible!) alcoholic ride in this automobile, just back from the shop and ready for another spin…
