The reviews of the latest Circle J cd 'Fat Man's Chest' were f***ing awesome. According to Paddyrock.com, a US-based website and online radiostation completely devoted to Celtic punk and -rock, "Circle J can give both Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys a run for their money in the Celt/Folk Punk Rock arena!". According to the number one Dutch music magazine OOR 'Fat Man's Chest' is "the best punkrock album that's been released in a long, long time."
All these sweet words of praise didn't go unnoticed: currently Circle J are playing more and bigger shows than ever, in Holland but also across the borders. Sonic Rendezvous offered to distribute the album worldwide. Check www.sonic.nl to order your copy of Fat Man's Chest. Of course you can still order by sending an e-mail to remco@circlej.nl or buy it at various stores around Holland, Concerto Amsterdam, Boudisque Utrecht or via www.plato.nl and various other stores around the world. It'll cost you only about 10 euro, postal fees excluded.
About the band
Circle J has been around since the late nineties, first as a three-piece punk band playing three-chord fun punk in every bar, squat and shitehole that was up for it. That is, until a 2002 Flogging Molly concert made them see the light. They then decided to infuse their punk with a decent shot of folk. Bouzouki, banjo, flute, and, lately, accordion, were added to the line-up, so what started as a flirt with folk evolved into a full-blown love affair. This infusion was blessed almost instantly by The Levellers, who welcomed Circle J as support act for their Chaos Theory tour in the Benelux. Then the band went into the studio and developed nine folk punk pearls and a gigantic thirst for more. With its sturdy folkpunk and dark lyrics, Fat Man's Chest takes the listener on a swashbuckling journey across the seven seas to the far corners of the earth.
On stage, a shared preference for stomping punkrock, Irish folk, beer and sing-alongs has moulded Circle J into a tight-knit bunch of scoundrels, sparkling with energy and fun. When you're in the audience, there's really only one thing you can do: Grab hold of your beer, put your fist in the air, and scream along!
Circle J played many a venue and festival in Europe, including Tivoli Utrecht, Paradiso Amsterdam, 013 Tilburg, Melkweg Amsterdam, Festival Mundial Tilburg, Rockhall (LU), Puelles Rock (ES), Hoffest Senftenberg (GE), het Paard The Hague, de Oosterpoort Groningen, Liberation Day Festival Utrecht, Rock van Laer (BE), and the Rootz Festival. Circle J has shared the stage with acts like Dropkick Murphys (US), The Levellers (GB), Less than Jake (US), The Mahones (CA), Neck (GB), Blood or Whiskey (IE), Skontra (ES), Mr. Irish Bastard (DE) and Jason Webley (US).
